Shooting from darkness to light presents its difficulties, as with the washedout background here. The spot metered headshot is probably what saved the day for this image...............

The harsh light becomes more apparent in this image as it falls on the branch and you have done remarkabley well in capturing the bird without over exposing.  I remember trying to photograph yellow wagtails a few years ago, I was very inexperienced and couldn't get the shutter speed to operate quick enough to stop the blur caused by their incessant bloody tail wagging : - )

Despite the brightness this does have a nice warm aspect that is very appealing.

All The Best Mate!

Thank you for your carefully chosen words (smiles)........... I pondered long and hard about posting this one, because of the issues you raised...... they are the obvious ones... but the clarity of the wagtails head, carried the day.

I could have (of course) fixed it all like a masterpiece in PP, but that would not have represented what I saw (at the time of capture). In my minds eye, the image at the time did not seem as stark as it turned out. I still like it though.....

Best regards
