Please view large. Please comment on this image from the iconic

Zabriskie Point at Death Valley National Park. I quickly learned that

capturing desired images does not happen easily, if at all, in this

expansive park where light is everything and camera angles and

views are close to unlimited. This park requires many visits to get it

right. This may be the spot for wannabe photographers with their

tripods. Thanks for your comments and critiques. Larry

Viewing this in the larger version, this is just beautiful. I like the different layers of those slopes in the foreground showing beautiful textures and colours. This is complimented by the beautiful lighting of sunrise in the distant mountains and I could even see a portion of the valley way down. BR.

A wonderful series, that appeals to me on many levels, the light, the layers and the textures in particular.

My all time favourite is the "Perched for the Sun\" with the photographers in the foreground, in fact come to think of it I should have added that to  "my favourites"  and I will do it now.

Compliments & Best Regards

A visual treasure, imposing to say the least.Have never seen an image quite like this one,it is one of a kind & to me , one of your best..Is this a composite image & if so,is very well crafted. It is so interesting, with the natural appearing landscape in the back ground, the middle occupying a flat landscape & the foreground, the compressed ridges of the peaks. All this with a 90 mm lens.Natural or composite,an outstanding image. Very well done. Best Regards-Ross

Can nature be like this? I do not know, but I very much like this picture and the whole series as it is. In this picture it is interesting to see the effect when we cover all the upper part whitch is in the sun: the colors of the foreground hills become even more poweful. Outstanding! Karl

Ross and Karl,

Thanks for your visits and nice comments on this image.  Yes, this is nature at is best or driest, depending on your perspective.  This image is basically as is, no composites, not much processing either. The lesson for me on this one was to omit the sky.  Death Valley only gets less than 2 inches of rain per year, and most days off clear blue skies.  The sunrise evolves quickly, and as I saw this image, I visioned it better with no sky.   The textures are amazing.  Thanks again.  Till next time.  Happy spring. Larry

Very Nice shot Larry. I agree with all the above comments. What about a 1/6th or 1/7th crop at the top? Just a suggestion. Jim

Jim,   Thanks for your comment.  To me, any cropping at the top would eliminate the definition in the distant mountains that adds dimension to the image.  That said, most images have a number of possibilities for presentation.  I do appreciate your suggestion.   Larry
