I've never seen this before. For about an hour, this great blue tried to

swallow a grebe. I wonder if it would have choked to death had it

managed the feat. I imagine the grebe was already dead when the

heron came along. A hawk was stationed just above, on a fence

waiting for the heron to fail. The hawk gave up and departed just

before the heron gave up and went after more suitable prey.

Wow!  Now this is one you don't see very often.  They'll sometimes take ducklings but a bird this big.. that's hard to swallow.  :-)

Notwithstanding the obvious interest factor here.......... you have captured a lovely low-light image with quality colour. I specifically enjoy the split between the background shade and illuminated subject. The image throughout has a somewhat muted look.... a soft capture....... and I'm tempted to tweak a little sharpening to encourage some tighter definition. A personal preference perhaps?

A lovely capture and presentation...... great eye capture.... well done.
