Stubai Alpen Glow

harrylichtman

I found this tarn in the late afternoon and took some images with grazing sheep surrounding the alpine watering hole. I wasn't sure if the weather would hold until sunset, so I took several compositions earlier with plans to return toward sunset. The weather held just fine. I traveled over a high pass between the peaks in the distance to arrive at this idealic tarn and view of the Stubai Alps. This was part of a multi-day backpack in the Stubai Alps.I stitched 2 horizontal exposures, vertically to cover the entire view, as I didn't have my 17-40L on hand.

Larry,

I saw this one on NPN yet and I don't know if it is the version without add contrast on BG mountains of if they have it.  I particulary think a few more on it should be good for improve it a few more.  I like specially the reflection of the 2 centered peaks.  I have experience in trekking about Stubai and I know how difficult it's to have in a picture the awe landscapes there, so I think of a very nice execution on this one.  I like too the soft sky and clouds.  Maybe a little bit more focus on left rocks of the FG?  Good work.  6/7.

Hi Daniel - I did try to add some extra contrast, not sure if it is coming through here. I will be adding some more image from this trip that haven't appeared on NPN yet!   Thanks for the look, Harry

I think its all too easy to lose the natural looking colours by adding too much contrast to shots like this. Thankfully you have retained foreground sharpness and a natural looking colours and hues in the distance peaks.  Beautifully done!

Best Regards

Thanks everyone.

Alf - I think it get pretty easy these days to overdue it with processing to compete for viewers.  I tend to hold back a little on color sat. in favor of hopefully an interesting comp. or subject.  Glad you appreciated it! In addition to colorful lighting, I found this compositon one where everything seemed to fall into place -FG rocks palcement angled lighting etc.  I savored the location for about 1 hour in the afternoon, then came back toward sunset for 2 more hours.  Alpine heaven!

This is a stunning alpine scene. I really like the composition you chose and all of the detail in the dark areas of the photograph. I feel like the left side of the sky could use a little bit of darkening.
