Superb detail in this excellent portrait Larry! Love the subtle copper colors in the birds feathers. My only nit it I'd have liked to see the birds tail feathers too.  Pretty cool shot just the same.

All the best,
Neil

Matthew, Gerolamo, and Neil,

Thanks for the compliments on our kea.  Truth be told this shot was taken in a parking lot.  Neil I wish I had gotten the full tail feathers in too.  The little guy was sizing up whether he'd get fed or whether to take off.  I'll have to wait to see if we get back to New Zealand to get another try.  Thanks again.  Larry

I would never have guessed it was taken in a parking lot! The bird contrasts so well against the surrounding stones and the habitat looks entirely natural.  Great sharpness and natural looking colours!

Compliments & Best Regards

Alf,  Thanks.  I was able to get on the right side of the bird so that the natural area was all that showed - pretty lucky.  I appreciate your visit.  By the way, I appreciate your information and outlook on the polarizing filters.  I will avoid using it when there are empty blue skies.  Larry

A similar thing happened to me (in a parking lot) when I was trying to shoot a Nene bird in Hawaii.  I got the back side of him, and some was cut off.  But it was rare to get so close to one, so I was still happy with that.  With regard to your image, I think it wouldn't bother me so much to see the feathers cut off at the bottom if some of the sides were also cropped.  See what you think of this square crop.  I'm absolutely thrilled to see this image though....I've never heard of a Kea, and it's an amazing color....I presume maybe in the parrot family.  I'll have to look it up.

Christal, yes I really like the crop.  The bird seems to speak to me better farther off on the left.  Thanks for your visit and your helpful remarks.  The kea is a New Zealand bird.    Larry
