Aesthetic Contemplation

Storebæltsbroen, Storebaeltsbroen (Storebæltsforbindelsen), Korsør, Denmark - The Great Belt Bridge (Großer Belt Brücke) is the fixed link between the Danish islands of Zealand and Funen across the Great Belt (Großer Belt). While taking this shot at this (somehow a bit remote) place under that huge bridge being very close to its shore-based bearing on Zealand at around 11 pm, suddenly a guy in a diving suit emerged out of the dark (approaching myself from land) asking what I was doing, but in the next second he already realized / gave himself the right answer (taking a shot of the bridge). Maybe he thought “what the hack is he photographing at all in darkness”… ;) Anyway, I did ask him what he was doing – he said he was about to dive for hunting trouts with a spear / harpoon. He said he was from Roskilde. He asked if there were further people around (especially divers / swimmers), because he wanted to make sure that no one could be harmed by his harpoon while hunting trouts a bit later. Just a few minutes later, he and two other mates of him disappeared in the waters of the Storebælt around 20-30 meters away from my tripod – they used underwater torches, hence the water adjacent to the beach and under the bridge became nicely illuminated… Because I wanted to avoid capturing this additional light or maybe getting accidentally harpooned ;), I stopped shooting and went away with my gear… As that fellow told me, such activities are currently getting very popular in Denmark. Hence, next time, I'm scheduled to take shots of those fishermen there… ;)Enjoy viewing.Volker

Very impressive indeed. But the composition and b/w tones that you have been used are magnificent.

Congratulations.

My best regards.

I agree. This is a superb POV and excellent lighting. The perspective us quite unique. BW is what makes this image so powerful. Congratulations.

Amazing, very amazing! The image is excellent from aesthetic and technical perspective. The visual elements are well articulated and the transition from front to back is smooth. The contrast and lighting are excellent as well.

The lighting is indeed most impressive, the underside of the bridge looks like a huge steel sword. Very original and powerful image!

Best Regards
