A Metro cop stops an inebriate who forgot to get off the train at the

last stop. Your ratings, critiques, and observations are invited and

most welcome. If you rate harshly, very critically or wish to make an

observation, please submit a helpful and constructive comment;

Telling scene. You have captured the helplessness of this man in the face of Authority! His face looks numb and he is obviously unsecure to the point of  tightly holding on to his bag while he is being frisked vigorously as indicated by the blurry moving hand of the policeman. As always, great B/W tones to this excellent image.Bravo!

Excellent documentary! You managed to show the essence of the system existing and existed. Reminds me of my soviet past. Goes straight to my faves!

It always is chancy to photograph a cop in a foreign country doing his duty, but then I was just stepping onto another train so I felt safe, or at least another was pulling into the station going the opposite direction and he was otherwise occupied (but not too severely, as this guy posed NO threat).  In fact, in this city drunks are a rare problem compared to, say Dnipropetrovsk, where they mnight be found lying in the street at least until they're picked up.  Kyiv has a 'no drinking in public policy' at least from open bottles as opposed to much of the rest of Ukraine.

I will not analyze your excellent critique; only ask that others read it for a most excellent example of good critique writing.

My best wishes to you in return.

It's funny (interesting) how such a simple photo can be so telling, isn't it, when sometimes other photos for which I try so hard sometimes come up short.

Thanks for the endorsement and kind comment.

What a a high compliment.

This is actually I think the newer, kinder, gentler system in place during the runup to FIFA ((European football cup).

Time will tell whether it's been replaced, which may have happened already, as indications have been detected by me though I am not there to say one way or the other beyond one adverse incident which was frightening to me, off-putting, and suggested that now that FIFA smiles were off, the 'old ways' were returning with a vengeance and perhaps more.

But time will tell and I don't comment politically.

And this guy is only a drunk with Kyiv well policed from the viewpoint of tourists and ordinary individuals and generally free of crime, but what happens if you're accused of crime is a different matter of which I only hear rumors, and frightening ones at that.   But I don't write of such things.

Ever.

And won't.

I take photographs.

Thanks for the high tribute.

Excellent capture and drama. Is the guy being frisked as I can see movement of the officer's left hand?

Link to comment

Yes, he's being frisked, as a safety precaution, but not too vigorously.  He was inebriated and too drunk to get off the train at its final stop, so the officer had to go get him; that's all.

It seemed proper to frisk a guy like that, just in case; if I were the cop, I would have too.

Thanks for the comment.  (You are right about the movement.  Capture speed 1/20th second).
