Another Time, Another Place

My father let me use his Olympus E1. I did not know anthing at all about using a DSLR. He set it most days to Auto, and just told me to 'TAKE PICTURES' !!!So I did. I was fortunate to have any turn out. Did obtain a few good captures. Unfortunately, and I do not know why, under 'file info' there was not any Metadata for this file. My sincere apologies.

While on a Cruise with my Parents in 2006, my Dad lent me his

Olympus E-1. I had not used a Digital Camera before. He set it to

Auto and just told me to 'TAKE PICTURES'. So I did. There were a

few that turned out OKAY, most times I had poor focus. I am though

very grateful Dad let me use his camera. (any visits, comments, and

encouragement is muc appreciated, most sincerely, Gail

Hi Gail,

This is an outstanding display.

It is a very nice image, but makes for an great work of art, like a fine painting.

There are times where "auto" is all you need to produce excellent images.

Best Regards,  Mike

Thanks to your Dad for showing you the first light of the world of Photography. This is a beautiful photograph with amazing foreground and attractive tonality. Best regards.

I think you sell yourself short and you are far too modest.  For a young girl to take photographs like this, you must have has an abundance of natural talent. Ok some may not have turned out as you wished. But here we have a clear, sharp, well composed, and well exposed image that a lot of adults would be proud to exhibit. The only real fault being that you clipped the cross at the top (though this could be due to croppping) But to add some balance to my reasoning, only five or six years ago I wouldn't have been able to take a photograph like this, I didn't have a clue! Any photographs that have survived from over 6 years ago taken by me, mostly feature people with half a head, and lots with thumbs and fingers that part cover the lens etc.

I realise of course that you have applied processing to the original image, but the essential ingredients had to be there in the first place, and of course the most essential ingredient of them all.......the natural talent of the photographer! Well done to you Gail!

Warm Regards

Alf

Love it! Great feeling of those times that hard to imagine. Is it a face of a ghost looking through at our world? I guess there was a market near by - hats and bags add some touch to the picture. Where is the place? Best regards, Tamara

Very good.  Like a painting.  The struction or the building is very good.  The clouds are not as good as the building.  Great work.

Lovely HDR shot! I like this one very much. Very creative and pleasing composition.

Thank you for the kind comments on my gallery. I think I am going to like photo.net. I will certainly return to your gallery often.

Thankyou both very much for those kind comments. This actually is  not an HDR shot, and I do not know how to do them actually, but I did do a lot of digital manipulation to pull out details and acutally painted in some.

The original image was quite soft and it has taken me almost 6 years to even tackle it. Had I known how to use my Dad's Camera, I think I could have taken a beautiful shot.

But I do not like to 'give up' on a shot, especially when there is a chance I will never see this place again. So, it is definitely digitally altered, but I am happy to know you both found it pleasing.

Warmest regards to you both, Gail
