I took this photograph in March of 1987, I believe near near Moab,

Utah early one cold and stormy morning at sunrise. I scanned the 4x5

negative and processed it in Lightroom and then CS5. Although this is

a remake, I find this rendition more to my liking and more reminiscent

that cold morning many years ago.

Leo, I think your composition here is superb.  The foreground vegetation, tree on the left,  winding river, and dark cloud across the light portion of the sky all combine in an aesthetically pleasing way.  I also like how the water and sky have been rendered, likely with a long exposure.  B&W works very well here.  I think this is excellent.

The image does look like a long exposure from the cloud movement and relative smoothness of the water. I like the glow from the sky that seems to  illuminate parts of the foreground vegetation and beyond.  A very well balanced composition and a delightful view. I'm glad you come across this one in your archives, it was well worth resurrecting and re-processing.

Best Regards

Alf

Thank you Stephen for your kind words. The 4x5 camera took quite a long time to set up compared to the digital camera of today, but it sure made you very careful about your compositions. Just knowing that I would only get one or two exposures, if everything worked as intended, sure made you very careful about every facet of the process. I must admit that I miss those days of upside down images and the smell of photographic chemicals but the ease of the digital process more easily fits with my advancing years

Thank you for those kind words. I did give the water a little help to push it to where I wanted it to go, but from your words of encouragement I think it was a good decision. If I can find the original scan, I will post it for comparison.

Excellent composition.  Delighted to see it.  The "S" river leads our eyss to a dreaming world with the milky clouds in the sky...  Best Regards,
