This is a scene I have shot before. But on visiting the location again this

time I was amazed by the difference that the light made. The light was

shining behind the trees and illuminating the sides of the mountains, I

thought it was worth shooting again. Your thoughts and comments are

always appreciated. Thank You.

Looking at this image in full size is really worth it! I agree with you, the lighting in this scene is very special. I also like your choice in what appears to be a telephoto lens. The compressed look of the hill in the background is great. I can't really think of anything to improve here. Thanks for sharing Alf.

Truly this image is better seen in the larger version for one can see the beauty and majesty of this landscape brought about by the magical lighting that you have caught at the right moment. The composition is impeccable and the reflection that mirrors the trees and the mountain is just a sight to behold.

Congratulations and best regards, Alf.

WOW!  This image viewed large is stunning!  The composition is perfect (as always).. I love the effect of the light filtering through, it feels as though the image is embracing me, pulling me in and the reflection is absolutely fantastic!  Very well done Alf

Alf, I like the way the diagonal movement of the clouds roughly mirror the slope of the mountain and with both being reflected in the water, it creates a great impression. The limited color palette of the cool grey and warm whites is very nice with the touch of red in front of the structure and the small violet streaks in the clouds. Also the line of skeletal trees against the sky is very effective. There are a couple of small white specks in the upper right corner that I am not sure what they are. They aren't bothersome, but would probably become more noticeable when printed.

HI Alf,

Well worth your effort. A superb result.

Excellent technical merit using the lens and camera settings, too.

My eyes were immediately captured by the converging lines, all of which pulled me to the subject trees.  Fantastic...  Mike

Wow

This is another excellent photograph of a well chosen scene. I have said it before and will say it again...I am a sucker for reflections, especially reflections whose lines bring me into the photo, and this photo delivers.

The way the light falls in this scene is amazing and acts as lines drawing my eye down the sides of the frame to the central family of trees. At first I thought I wanted a little more detail in the shadows but after looking at it think the exposure works just the way it is.

The house's presence is superfluous but not distracting. Of course you aren't going to go and knock the house down, I just like this scene better with the complete absence of man.

Another excellent shot for the collection Alf.

Yes, seeing the trees as a row of silhouettes against a relatively bright background, especially the strip of green right behind them, is very pleasing to the eye.  It is wonderful light.

I was surprised when I saw the lens used, this looks like taken with ultra-wide lens or is it stitched multiple shots? You don't say so, so must be taken from very big distance! Yes, the lighting is great, makes a great deal of the overall impression! And mood, the most important and final is the mood!

Best regards Alf!

simultaneously meditative and electric, Alf. i can't tell you how extraordinarily beautiful this is to my eyes. my word, Alf, if could hang any nature picture on my wall, it would be this, large across the parlor wall. ;-} the beauty with with which you see in your eyes and mind are a constant thrill. dp

Many Thanks for your interest and positive feedback, much appreciated!

The 70  - 300mm Tamron lens is very sharp and you are quite right, the distance from which the image was taken allows a good deal of compression. I have several images from previous visits to this location, but never witnessed the light like this before.

Many Thanks for your interest and kind words. The 50/50 split does seem to work here, maybe its the converging lines of the hillside that helps it.

Many Thanks for your thoughtful observations and positive feedback. It is really gratifying to read that you shared that same feeling of "majesty and magic" when you viewed the image, as those that I felt when I was there. It is one of my favourite places, and I was fortunate to catch the llight just right.

Perfect.......well  "perfect" is something I strive for, but rarely achieve, and theres always room for improvement, but it's very gratifying to read that this one delivers for you, and I'm really pleased you like it.

You have delivered an interesting take on this one, but I think you may have read it slightly wrong, though I can why you would mis-diagnose the scene.  There are no clouds visible in this shot, the area behind and above the trees are all mountain side, but the rays of the sun have created glare and only the parts of the slopes that are in direct sunlight are properly visible. There is waterfall faintly visible slightly left of middle above the trees and the small white specks you refer to are the last bits of snow that have yet to melt, (though perhaps I should have got rid of these) So the area behind the trees is not sky, but simply a misty glare from the suns rays, behind whch lies more of the mountain. I hope that explains it better for you Tony, I understand its quite a difficult one to read.

Many Thanks and Best Regards

Alf

Oh to have such faith! : - ) If I was just brave enough I would.

Sincere Thanks my friend.

PS Great result against for your team the "toffees" Don't ask me about Liverpool v QPR. I have no Idea how Liverpool could dominate the game and in the words of one reporter "Snatched defeat from a certain victory"

Good to hear from you!

"Sucker for reflections" You and me both, I must admit a good proportion of my images feature water of one kind or another and most of them also feature reflections. There is something about a reflected scene that allows a just a slightly different take on the actual vision as we see it.

The light was very special, as it was sun was shining like a slice section between the back of the trees and converging slopes, and leaving a misty glare in the background that kind of made the trees more visible.

As for the house, well although everything is subjective of course, I really love it, it looks to me like a refuge from the rest of the world. And yes I can empathise to some degree with your thoughts regarding the "absence of man" for a lot of landscape scenes, but on this one I actually think it fits.

Sincere Thanks for your very thoughtful analogy and positive feedback Joe, much appreciated!

As you know all too well with landscapes, its all about the light, or certainly a great deal of it. I watched the light develop here, the first signs just a tiny strip to the right of the house. I took a few shots as I waited some 50 minutes for the sun to move around and illuminate the scene as you see it here.

Sincere Thanks

Alf

PIERRE

You are quite right, it was the distance that was great, probably something like 150 meters away. (I wouldn't know how to stitch images)  The focal length was about 80 mm and I have cropped the image slightly top and bottom to allow the Pano type view. I do have an ultra wide lens (14 - 24 mm) But that woudl encompass a lot of the sky and the tree line would be insignificant within the composition. I'm really pleased you liked this one Pierre!

Sincere Thanks and Best Regards

Thank you so much for your invaluable feedback and interest. The light was indeed a great feature, but perfect? ...........well I do strive for perfection, but maybe if I found it I wouldn't be quite as enamoured as I am with photgraphy : - )

Ooh keep using all those big words I love em! : - )

I am very touched by your comments, someone once said "if  an image can make people feel something when they look at it, then you have succeeded in your task as a photographer. And so... I am deeply gratified that this one has reached you having the same effect it did when I viewed it through my viewfinder. In fact I couldn't ask for a better comment.

Sincere Thanks & Best Regards
