jlg 0 Posted March 10, 2012 I wonder exactly what I'm seeing. I wonder what is the black thing in the lower-right (not the stick) that looks like a shopping bag turned upside-down. I wonder what exactly are the things that form a row in the right to center. I wonder how on earth did you get such a soft sea undistinguishable from the sky. I like the softness overall, the perspective and the depth of the image. I don't like the dusk sunlight strip so close to the horizontal row of sticks or whatever they are. And I finally miss something in the image that with the existing elements is interesting, but doesn't seem complete. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted March 11, 2012 Cool shot. Reminds me a little of the surrealist paintings. 6/7. Link to comment

melloncollie 0 Posted March 12, 2012 the mirroring is so perfect that it seems those posts are floating in the sky. almost surreal. a masterpiece. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted March 13, 2012 Very impressive image, I like it. A little bit strange loss in intensity at the corner by a canon 16-35. Best regards, Alessandro Link to comment
vbirke 0 Posted March 13, 2012 Your comments are much appreciated.José Luis: you're viewing parts of a jetty which is partly dismantled over winter to prevent it from potential damage due to drifting ice (which built up a few days after this shot was taken). On the left is a kind of concrete block once deposited in the shallow water, some steel cable or so cast into it as well (for what reason - I do not know), it's maybe used in summer as a stair or so helping enter / leave a moored yacht / sailing boat, but don't know it, assume it... Note that Lake Duemmer (Dümmer, Dümmersee) it's a pretty shallow lake and on this evening it was pretty windless, hence the surface appeared as a flat mirror. One may observe such effects on another shallow lake here in northwest Germany, Lake Steinhude, as well (have uploaded several such photos where viewers got amazed by that but were also puzzled a bit, like you here). I've enhanced this effect by long exposure, sometimes I additionally apply a filter supplied by Color Efex for reducing the tonal range in such areas. Of course, it's a curious, bit strange scenery here, enhanced by the light beam at the horizon generated by the last sunlight after sunset. To me, a very beautiful and very unique scene I was lucky to capture. Alessandro: I added a vignette, the lens is OK, belongs to the better ones of its kind I believe (it's already version II). Before I purchased this particular peace of glass in 2008 or so, I tested it thoroughly. Had been concerned / alerted by a lot of complaints on the Web (regarding the old version anyway, but also poor production batches of the II version), but this one is tack sharp even in the corners and very often even at f/2.8 (regarding my old 5D). With the 5D MKII it's still sharp but not as good with the old 5D... Canon wants their valued customers not only to upgrade their cameras from time to time, I think you know that well... ;), of course, their lenses as well... With the upcoming 5D MKIII I'm pretty much concerned that it will be required to upgrade some lenses as well (why else do / did they issue a new 24-70 mm, 70-200 mm and so forth?)... Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted March 25, 2012 This is sensational! I like the dark vignetting and the strip of warm light, it adds a touch of drama to cool quiet tranquility of the scene. The left side upright and other object add balance to the shot and offer points of interest in what would otherwise be empty space. My Sincere ComplimentsAlf Link to comment
jlg 0 Posted March 26, 2012 Volker: Thank you very much for your explanations. With them I no longer see the image as incomplete. A very beautiful view, indeed. Link to comment
