Guest Guest Posted March 4, 2012 William,This is a very nicely posed head and shoulders shot. You have focused well on her eyes. Her make-up looks good. She has beautiful catchlights. The lighting works very well. Great subtle backlighting to help separate her from the background. The background is nicely neutral and she is well separated from the background. You could crop a smidgen off the bottom, but the composition is excellent. There are only a couple of things that might improve the image for me.Her skin appears a tad red in places. It almost looks like some tan lines and she was out in the sun a bit too long. With her lovely "redhead" pale skin tone, I would soften the "dark" circles under her eyes. With her skin tone, even though circles are not very dark, they are quite noticeable. A little more saturation would be good. It looks a little washed out. This would also darken the background to help make her stand out even better and add a bit of detail to the highlight areas of her top. I probably would whiten her teeth a bit. This needs to be done on almost all portraits.Your depth of field in narrow enough so that the right side of her hair and her right shoulder and the right side of her dress are noticeably our of focus. I don't see a good reason to have any of her out-of-focus. An out-of-focus background is very nice and focuses attention on your subject. Parts of your subject out-of-focus will draw attention away from what is in focus. It is difficult to go wrong with having the entire subject in focus.Nice shot,Mark Link to comment

elportebonheur 0 Posted March 13, 2012 I look at everything I see as a creative choice made by the photographer. This one is taken and presented intentionally as soft-focus image to enhance the image "design" - a good choice imho. Compliments! Link to comment
GailAnthonyHarmer 6 Posted March 17, 2012 I agree with El-Porte William. Lovely shot of your Grandaughter. I always find her attractive in your Portraits, and she seems to have an angelic glow about her.Lovely, William.Warmest regards, Gail Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted March 18, 2012 Personally I think the areas of softness go a long way to making that sharpness and eye contact all the more tangible. A photograph to be proud of! Very well done!Best RegardsAlf Link to comment

william_staniforth 0 Posted March 18, 2012 Thanks for your support on this one . I know Mark pointed out some salient points , but I can't help wondering if his own work would stand such close scrutiny ! Bill Link to comment
tore 10 Posted March 18, 2012 One thing I like a bit extra in this shoot is the rim light on her hair and shoulders, Its well balanced and helps to shape the model in a nice way.Great work.Best regards Tore Link to comment
