HI Sam,

Good job tracking this great bird.

I own the same lens (and have tested it , along with all the other Sigma lens), and it is one of the better third party long zoom lens available, especially when shot at F/6.3.

The use of F/10 compromised the finer details that I should be revealed. The F/10 does nothing to improve DOF at the range anyway, and the additional light would have allowed for a change in ISO or even a faster shutter speed.

Yeah Mike,

the story is that I usually nake such shots on the run, impromptu, just having made another shot at settings which are not optimal for the next shot which offers itself, like this suddenly occurring fly-by of the egret, when there is no time for deliberations, evaluations, re-settings, etc.

I'm already kind of glad that I can see what it is that I've been shooting at.... 

I'll keep on trying, that's for sure.
