Bill, I agree with the others that the high contrast in this works nicely. There is just enough detail on the dark side of the face to complete the portrait. 

The deep shadow works really well, I like the catch lights in his eyes that gives his expression one of keen alertness, and at the same time a kind disposition. Very well done!
