I have sold my drum set to finally upgrade my equipment to get back to

what I love. This was the first real test with the 50D & Canon 400mm

5.6L USM. This is about a 50% crop. All helpfull criticisms welcome!

As a drummer in my past life, you have my sympathy in selling your kit. If however you purchased the 400mm lens with the proceeds of the sale, then you did well.

The definition in the plumage is quite remarkable, and in viewing larger, this is a beautiful capture. The strong DoF isolates the subject well.

Thanks Giangiorgio and Pekka! This is the from the first shoot with my new 50D and Canon 400mm 5.6L USM. It truely is a tact sharp lens. And for ?$1,100 US, it's a bargin. Because of lack of I.S., I was tripod mounted and using a cable release to shoot. If you haven't seen it, check out the Tufted Titmouse shot enlarged. I'll bet you've never seen detail on ones head like it! I am going to strickly focus on birds all year other than a few outings for other wildlife, so this is just the beginning. Thanks again!
