A shot from yesterdays foray to Squamish and Whistler. This shot was

taken as the sun was going down in Britannia Beach on the Sea to Sky

Highway. I was perched on some rocks just of the railway tracks.

Processing was done in Lightroom 2. Please let me know what you think

of the composition and processing.

The long exposure has a nice smoothing effect on the water and there is good detail in the foreground rock. The sky and reflected colours and overall aesthetics are pleasant to view.  The upright posts look interesting and I think I would have tried to make more of them by zooming in if possible or getting closer to them in a more lelevated position to to give them greater seperation from the horizon.  Nice work Paul.

Best Regards

Alf

Hi Alf.  Thanks for your comments on this one.  I only have ND filters for my 17-40 lens, and had that zoomed in a fair amount.  I could have been higher, but not by much, unless I tote a ladder around!  : )  Take care, and I hope you have a fantastic new year.

Hello Paul,

This one is much better.  There are three points of interest, the foreground, the trees and poles in the middle, and the sun and mountains in the back.

Also the layered structure of the mountains adds to the strength of the image.

Beautiful light.

Well Done,
Ben

Thanks Pierre and Ben.  As you both now by now, I am a fan of long exposures because of the way they simplify water, and add the suggestion of movement in clouds.  This was a 60 second exposure, at ISO 400, and f22.  I did not want to shoot at such a high ISO, so I tried shooting at ISO 50, and then 100, but found that the exposures were becoming way too long, given the time I had left to shoot at this location (the sun was going down very quickly).  I am pleased with this version, but produced another version where I reduced the exposure more in the sky, and played with the white balance to bring more of the sky colour out.  I am at my school right now, but will post a copy of the newer version for comparison.  All the best to both of you, and i hope the new year brings many good photographic and life moments!  Take care.

Paul
