jgalyon 0 Posted November 26, 2011 Angel Oak is located on Johns Island, South Carolina. It is estimated to be between 1200-1500 years old, making it the oldest living "thing" east of the Mississippi. Thanks for viewing! Link to comment

dave_dise1 0 Posted November 27, 2011 John, very unusual. Good shot. I like the darkness as it makes me feel deep in the forest where mysteries abound and anything could happen. I was wondering why the bottom of the tree trunk is a little blurred yet the trunk is not? Regards Dave. Link to comment
jgalyon 0 Posted November 27, 2011 I appreciate the kind comments, gentlemen! To answer your question, Dave...if you notice, there's blur around the edges of the entire photo. I added it in PS to achieve that sense of deep forest mystery. Regards to all...John Link to comment

GailAnthonyHarmer 6 Posted January 5, 2012 I'm so glad I came looking for this one John. I saw, I'm sure, another Angel Oak, and was rating photos. I thought the one I saw was different, but perhaps not. But I am sure I commented that this reminded me of the Living Oak we saw in Brookgreen Gardens, South of Myrtle Beach. I think the oldest tree they had was dated just before the Constitution. This Angel Oak, is that what they have named this tree and is it in fact a Living Oak, or is the Angle Oak a different Species of Oak. I should look it up for myself.I think they are the most beautiful trees and this one is no exception, Your editing with textures and various light treatments is so effective. I love this composition. Good to know where this one is, I can't believe how old it is!Kindest regards, Gail Link to comment
william_staniforth 0 Posted April 17, 2012 A fantastic old tree , the colours and textures are marvelous . Exposure and composition are spot on ! Bill Link to comment
jgalyon 0 Posted April 23, 2012 Gail, My apologies for not getting back to you before now! Thanks so much for your kind words and for the information. I agree. Live oak trees are just so beautiful. Maybe as a southerner, I'm prejudiced...but I can't think of a more beautiful tree!~ Regards, John Link to comment
jgalyon 0 Posted April 23, 2012 William, thank you for the nice words! I haven't spent much time on site of late, but I'm trying to get back into the swing of things...which includes visiting the portfolio of old friends that I've neglected, such as yourself. I look forward to seeing what you've been up to since last we spoke! Kind Regards, John Link to comment
