Fantastic catch... both yours and the Heron!

Next time you might convince your handlers to let you out of the cage and you won't have the fence in the way ;-).... Mike

Thanks Michael! Yesterday they did let me out for 10 minutes and that's how I got this shot. I was barely out for 10 minutes and he kid was howling over the phone for me to get home and I hung out for 2 more minutes to get this guy with dinner. :-)

great shot. personally I don't remember the last time I saw a Heron with anything other than a fish or crustacean in its mouth so this really is a wonderful capture. good DoF and tones

Hi Tmj,

Excellent results, despite the diffraction effects by the chain linked fence.

Nice to see others hand holding longer lens.

Best Regards, Mike

Thank you folks! Ever since I've found that I can shoot through the fence with one single focusing point (at center) by standing about 2-6 feet from the fence it's been nice. The animal is not scare of me (because of the fence) and I still can shoot them. It would be nicer if they make some larger hole (these a probably 2" square).

Thanks Steve! Yah, Holy Moly for sure, he ate (swallow) that in about 1 mintues with just a couple tries. It amuses me to think of how the Kestrel & Osprey eat, not efficient eater at all ... bit by bit. Eating like this guy or the cormorant will depleted the food source in a  hurry. :-)
