Another beautiful, well presented capture Mike,. I love poppy's and this one si so brilliant and vibrant.  The poppy is well accented by the gazanias (at least I think that is what they are) in the background.

Beautiful work.

Warmest regards, Gail

Mike,  you have a really interesting composition here, it seems to work well.  i would like to see this image large enough to hang on a wall.  also think it just might work better without the border and frame.  they give the flowers a feeling of being contained where as if you had just let them bleed out to frames edge that totally changes the dynamics of your image. nice work!

Hi Gail

Thanks for your kind words. I don’t know one flower from the next but I was told that the flowers in the background are Cineraria. Does that make sense?

Cheers

Thanks Roger for your comment – in particular your thoughts on the frame. I’ve had a mostly consistent approach to framing for some time. It has not always been ideally suited to every image but it had the advantage of being uniform and of course quick.

You made me think though that it may be time for a change so I have tried a different approach with constant layout but with the background colour chosen as a compromise limited to a particular series. I’d appreciate your thoughts if you come across one of my new efforts (I’ve tried to re-upload this one with a new frame but nothing has shown up yet).

Thanks again,

Mike

Mike, you will likely get multiple opinions about the frame. I like big blue frame. It makes the poppy stand out more and adds contrast to your image. White frame appears neutral, just as web page is neutral. Just a personal opinion, of course.

Thanks Sandeep…

I’m looking at the dark frames on another computer now rather than my normal screen and the colour saturation of the frames is a lot higher on this one – it was meant to be subtle!  I’ll have to have another go – maybe even settle on a common one for future images.

 Thanks for your input.

 Cheers

Mike

Mike, most people at PN are shy about using bold frame. They will either present just vanilla photo or use mild frame. However, most impressive profiles I have seen use frames in very clever way. It has to do with perception of light or dark areas in image. In a loose sense, dark frame will reveal more detail in dark areas because our eyes adjust to darkness surrounding the photo (just like absolute black curtains in movie theater). Sometimes I have seen big black frame bigger than the photo itself. It works well for some photos.

Will be interesting to see what you choose for future photos.

Best... Sandeep
