Window & Weather Vane

LenMarriott

Cropped & converted to B&W via Channel Mixer (100% red) in Photoshop. Some minor contrast adjustment and sharpening as well. I felt it reproduced better in B&W. Best, LM.

This setup made me smile,.....I like the angle of your triangle/rectangle  composition and the different form of black  cock,in the nearly grey surrounding ...Nice sense of humor as well as a good observation.

Good to have your visit.  I took what I thought was an interesting detail, not thinking at the time how that weather vane was supposed to work properly, with the big wall effectively blocking the wind from that direction.  Not sure how I'd have framed it had the rooster been looking the other way.  Can't remember if there was a window to the right.  :-(  Best, LM.

Geometrical and tonal perfection, that's how I would describe this picture in short! But the central object of the composition isn't to be neglected, he after all, has the main role, he's making a mood and gives sense to the composition! Excellent stuff anyway!

Best regards Len!

There are two things about this that immediately appeal. The first is the originality of the shot, its so difficult to find a subject that hasn't been photographed dozens of times, but I think you cracked it with this one! The other appealing aspect is the sense of balance, from the offset apex of the roof to the window, oh and I also like that little door, but my curiosity burns to know, whats its purpose is? As for the weather vane itself, I guess the owner just liked it for its aesthetic value, and wasn't too bothered about its practicalities. I must admit I like it too, it looks very regal sitting there!

Best Regards

I lucked out while looking for something to photograph at this old mill, now a hotel.  I think that passers-by thought I was cracked when they observed me photographing this old, arguably unusable weather vane.  The door is pure serendipity, a bit of a bonus if you like.  Who knows what's in there?  Chicken coop?  I think a photo should have a little mystery, some tension to keep the viewer wondering.  The door does that!  (perhaps that's it's purpose)  As for the unworkable weather vane, perhaps it serves the same purpose as a hood ornament on a car;  it breaks up a boring expanse of hood (wall in this case) and adds an element of interest.  I sat on this one for 8 months before deciding to resurrect it from my shoebox.  The more I look at it the more I like it.  Thanks for your always welcome visit.  Best, LM.
