Location: Menindee Lake, NSW, Australia (a man made redirection of water from the Darling River). You're viewing dead gum trees (Eucalyptus) and some shrub flooded by waters of the Darling River, the longest river system in Australia, shortly after sunset.I'm grateful to Glen Parker, a fellow Australian photographer who has already published some amazing shots of this spot and has inspired me somewhat, and Andrew, Thomas and Luke with whom I had the great pleasure and honor to visit this extraordinaryly wonderful place and who had moreover great patience with a crazy photographer from Europe... ;)

This is a classic, the surreal looking stark outline of the tree contrasts superbly with the silky water and the colour & light gradation from top to bottom works really well too. Perfect composition and presentation. 7

........ Less is more! A rather stark yet beautiful capture. Reminds me of my boyhood in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) when the Kariba Dam was filling and drowning 100's of kilometres of bushland under metres of water from the mighty Zambezi river.

Great capture and presentation.. well done.

Well done. You have certainly provided a unique perspective of Minindee Lakes I haven't seen before.

For me the sky is a fraction to dark but the effect is creative and effective.

It reminds me to put some of mine up from our last visit through that part of the country. I love it out there. Its the last big water before the outback. I'm about 7 hours south of there.

The flood waters added to the lake rendered this image more beautiful with just the tree and the partially flooded shrubs. I like the interpretation of the water and the drama of the clouds completes the scene. Well seen and presented.

Hi Volker,

This is a beautiful presentation. The subtle colors, the sky and the trees make for a solid composition. Great work, look forward to more. Take care.

an impressive photo. With the long exposure turning the water into an almost textureless plane and the tree and shrubs popping out at seemingly arbitrary points you've created a surreal atmosphere.

While the cloud's colours are a well working contrast to the dominant bluish hues, their shape guides my eyes back to the (well composed) main elements.

this one doesn't work for me.  it's not precisely that i think it's too dark, but it seems upside down.  if the sky were normal and the surface very bright,  i think it would right itself.  best, jamie
