I wasn't sure about the category, it was a kind of street scene. The boy

was walking up the concrete ramp and rolling round pebbles he had

found on the beach below......so....is it "Children" or is it "Street" I only

know it isn't Landcsape : - ) Your thoughts and comments are always

appreciated! Thank you!

A wonderfully crisp image with a shutter speed fast enough to freeze the stone in mid-air. Exposure is right on the button and the result is appealing.

As to the categories - your guess is as good as mine. When I associate something with a street shot there is usually urban or street elements in the background which might not be so obvious in this case. Who really cares except for one individual who indicated in one of his comments that he rates images based on the category in which it is placed. If it is not up for rating then it really does not matter - I suppose.

Now that I have been taking a 2nd look, I might have occupied more space in the image with the boy at play. Of course there is no right or wrong in anything I have written so please take it with a grain of salt.

All the best,

He certainly is having a good time at play, and you've captured that 'moment' so admirably Alf. I love how his blonde hair glistens in the sun. Very good crop, fine attention to detail, and as always, well presented.

Warm regards to you Alf, most sincerely, Gail

Alf...  Put this in the category of "Good Stuff"!  From the excellent b/w tones to the wonderful little boy dirty hands to the just right DOF, this is perfect... Mike

I agree with the comment about the level of detail, including the dirty hands, providing levels of interest.  I really love that you show his face in concentration with a neutralized background ... a great perspective.  His expression ages him perhaps cluing us to what he might look like in a few years.  Lovely child shot.  Isn't your title from a movie?

Sincere thanks for your in depth anaolgy and thoughtful critique. I really rate this lens by the way, it is very sharp, even at the full focal length and hand held it comes up with the goods.

As for the guy that rates based on the category in which the image is places...... well suffice to say, there's always one! But as you know I long since become dissillusioned with the PN rating system, but I'm pleased I can still submit images and get the quality feedback from people like yourself I receive.

I think your suggestion is worthy of merit to have the boy occupying a larger area within the frame, but I was a bit reluctant to crop it further, having already cropped it by approx 20%. I don't suppose it would have mattered really as I don't intend to have it printed.

Cheers Tony!

GAIL

Many Thanks Gail, The great advantage of a long lens, is you can be that fly on the wall and see everything going on around you, and of course capture it. I enjoyed taking shots the beach scenes, it was more street than the street if you get my drift. Children playing, adults laughing, everything so alive and vibrant. This little guy was just one of hundreds if images I took that day, I was suprised at how much I enjoyed it, different than landscape, but not better. : - )

Warm Regards

Alf

MIKE

Many Thanks for your comments. I know you are a keen collector of lenses and have a wealth of information relating to the subject. I think it might be worth checking out the one I used for this shot, although it is relatively inexpensive, its razor sharp.

Alf

MIKE

Sincere Thanks for your flattering and very observant comments. I was wondering who, if anyone would notice the dirty hands (well it was sand actually) I thought it was quite a contrast to his otherwise angelic looks.

Cheers Mike

DONNA

Many thanks for your very observant anaology, I agree, the expression does give a glimpse of the man to be. The title is very similar to that of the Novel by Nick Hornby and later the movie with Hugh Grant "About A Boy"  I just added the word "All" .....but yeah I did kind of copy it, as it seemed a most applicable title.

Cheers Donna

Alf, I like the boldness of the shirt, which might have easily overwhelmed the focus on the face, but you handled it nicely. Also I like the amount of space that you've allowed around the figure.

Although your landscape shots are wonderful, this is a nice change of pace.  As to the category, I think "street" is broad enough to include any photograph that somehow addresses "the human condition" (a very overused phrase).

You did a great job capturing not only the movement of the boy's play, but also the intensity and the sheer joy on his face.  Excellent tonal range is displayed as well.

My best,

michael

What a fair-haired little guy.  The stripes work well with the B&W, almost enhancing the slightly comedic capture.

Many thanks for your invaluable feedback. I was also concerned about the eye catching shirt, but somehow I got away with it .

MICHAEL

Sincere thanks for your thoughts and positive feedback, much appreciated. Sometimes you just need to do something different, though I wish I could boast the versatility of some photographers...your self included, who seem to be able to adaprt to any genre and excel at it. But for now at least I'll try to keep improving on the bits I do know about.

Cheers Michael!

What a perfect timing here to get the ball where it is and the young man hand just above the ball, very appealing image and I am sure the b/w has a lot to do with its appearance and such a remarkable manner, the details are so fine here while your contrast and tone are of very high technical quality.

Thank you my friend for sharing it and wishing you all of the best.

Many thanks for your invaluable feedback, much appreciated. I think the strong sunlight was helpful in achieving a very fast shutter speed in order to catch the action it was this also that made the shot quite sharp even handheld at 300mm. I sometimes with the sun wasn't so bright, but it worked in my favour on this occasion.

Really like this Alf, so different for you. Image is crisp and clear and reminds us of how children used to play. Well seen and executed.

You have captured the essence of a young boy and his imagination! This image reminds me of my own son when he was young (blonde curls too) and the time we had tons and tons of large river rock delivered and dumped in the front drive. I carried them one by one to the back yard, making piles until I could make the borders. My son used the piles as forts for his army men, airplanes and apache helicoptors. I think a few Tonka dump trucks were used too. Anyway, long story to tell you that I like this photo and the memories it conjures up within me. Thank you for that; they are precious memories. Thank you for sharing. :)
