stp 6 Posted July 27, 2011 A whimsical photo of tree reflections along with tree patterns formed by water draining over the sand in the foreground. Trees everywhere, but none are real -- a visual metaphor for digital manipulation? Comments and suggestions are appreciated. Thanks. Link to comment

plangereis 0 Posted July 28, 2011 Hi Stephen. I really love this image. I like the way the tree designs are suggested in the sand, as well as the tree reflections in the tidal pool. What i like more is the way you have suggested a tree with the overall composition, using that section of the tidal pool and the small rivulet running into it to act as a "tree trunk". Very cleverly seen my friend. You have used selective focus (tree reflection is slightly soft) to isolate the hidden gem I suggested. Who knows, maybe you were not even thinking of that aspect of this image, but it is what I see in it and that is what good art is all about. All the best my friend.Paul Link to comment
llgarcia 1 Posted July 31, 2011 Without reading your caption, at first I saw the tree reflections and taking a longer look revealed the "tree" pattern of the ripples in the foreground. It takes a keen eye to pre-visualize this and bring it out in the final image. Excellent concept and nicely presented. Best regards! Link to comment
alfbailey 2 Posted August 3, 2011 Its quite a gift to see beyond the obvious and find the photograph within the landscape as you have here. Very well observed and presented.Best RegardsAlf Link to comment

jeff.grant 0 Posted August 8, 2011 Steve, this is a cracker. I particularly love the branches in the sand and the colour is excellent. Given my propensity to always change something, I don't think that the distant shore is adding anything, in fact I find it a distraction. My inclination would be to crop it and just leave the reflection. Link to comment
stp 6 Posted August 8, 2011 Jeff, I think you're absolutely right. When I roll the image up on my screen to "crop" the other side, leaving just the reflections, the result is simpler and more fully focused (in the fullest sense of the term) just on trees. Thanks. Link to comment
Landrum Kelly 64 Posted August 15, 2011 Truly unique. Great work as always, Stephen.--Lannie Link to comment
stp 6 Posted August 18, 2011 It took two days, but the revised version finally made its way through the system. Personally, I like this version much more, and I appreciate the suggestion from Jeff to crop the very top. Also the notion of the water resembling another tree mentioned by Paul is something I hadn't considered; I can now see the interface between the water and the sand as the underside of a tree. Trees everywhere! [FYI, the original is attached for reference; sharpening was done quickly and may not exactly match the original.] Link to comment
