Donna Stavis 0 Posted July 24, 2011 It's not only beautiful -- culture by a gentle Israeli beach --, but it brings back memories of this sort of such fun. I used to catch a bus with friends to Tel Aviv beach every Friday morning, and late in the afternoon, we'd take a sherut back to Jerusalem after the last bus connecting the cities stopped. In Yerushalyim, we'd walk from the central bus station to Machene Yehuda, buy the produce for cheap cheap cheap because they wanted to get rid of it before Shabbat, and then walk through the neighborhoods home -- me to Rehavia, rest, and later make a meal with friends or go to a friend's grandmother, who made homemade gefillte fish. Anyway, that was our routine, and this brings back some happy memories. During one of those trips, we're walking in TA and through the corner of my eye, I glimpse a familiar face-- Moti Caspi! I sort of gave him a look, which he saw and nodded, "yeah, it is I...," , and we went on our way. Ayza chaiim tovim! Playing ball on the beach, swimming, reading, dreaming under the sun, feeling as carefree as the upside down monkey Link to comment
3m 0 Posted July 25, 2011 Pnina: Nice to see a (very original) beach scene from the other side of the globe :-)I very much like the combination of colors and contrasts in your photo. Also the way you are showing the scale of the monkey sculpture in comparison with the man beyond works very well. The only thing I'm not so sure about is the vertical format frame... I wonder if a different approach ( square or horizontal, but showing possibly a bit more on the RHS) might possibly have been more interesting..? That being said, I like the way the monkey is shown off-centered like this, and it balances the shadow of the sculpture quite well as is also.... Link to comment

pnital 36 Posted July 25, 2011 Donna, I'm glad it brought so many good memories to you, and thanks for writing them.I think that one of the benefites of photography is that some of them are having a reaction like yours. Beemet chaim tovim....;-))It is a statue created by the artist Tzadok Ben David, and is called:" Behind Borders" Jennifer thanks! it IS a long time!Dave, glad to see you here. it is a long time as well...;-)) I hope you are well. Marjolein, thanks I thought to show the scale of the statue so the formate looked good to me, I think that a square will not show this scale, but I will try next time I'm there, and see how it looks your way....;-))Peirre and Ruud, thanks both of you for your constant feedback . Very much appreciated. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted July 26, 2011 His work Beyond Borders, as far as I know was ment to be the subject of gravitation. his work in Yad Vashem( the tree) was meant to the partizans in the II WW, where the trees/forests gave shelters to them. Thanks for following up, I have some more works of him that I will upload. Jack McRitchie 150 Posted July 27, 2011 From the stage to the beach and it still feels like a dance. This is a whimsical offering from you and one that I like very much. Sorry I haven't been around much lately, just one of those blah periods. Adan Wong visited Osaka a little while ago and we had a chance to get together for a very enjoyable dinner. I'm waiting for your visit next. Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted July 29, 2011 The man looking in the opposite direction, so casual, so unaware, is almost as comical as the monkey. It's an eccentric scene, well worth the effort. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted July 30, 2011 Kallol and Alberto, thanks both of you.Jack, glad to see you back. Adam sent me his album of photos from Kyoto and Osaka ,I'm glad that you have met, he is a very nice human being, we met in Israel. I also hope to meet you one day in the future....;-))Jeff, he is a very skilled artist, I think that his aim here was a question of dimensions and gravity. It is a very prominent statue on the sea shore, and for me it was as well a question of dimension... Link to comment
