stp 6 Posted July 12, 2011 This is the stuff of living: a beautifully smooth surface, equally smooth sky overhead, but then these nasty things poke their heads up and disrupt all the peace and calm that we assumed would be when children became adults. That's the story I see here. Link to comment
vbirke 0 Posted July 12, 2011 Thanks, Stephen, for leaving this extensive comment and interpretation. Yes, this image could represent such an allegory, very good.BR / Volker Link to comment
samschnieders 1 Posted July 12, 2011 And to put it another way: a dream state broken by reality, or is it that reality is enveloped by a dream state? Anyway, it evokes all sorts of interpretation - excellent image regardless.Sam Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted July 13, 2011 Superb minimilistic image. I love the light gradation and the cloud movement, the spikey driftwood we encounter to coin a phrase is like "taking the rough with the smooth" in good proportion and balance.Best RegardsAlf Link to comment
JamieK 1 Posted July 13, 2011 the bottom goes a bit funny though. i think it may be too bright. best, j Link to comment
mike_palermiti 3 Posted July 13, 2011 Hi Volker,Great concept, well executed. The dead drift wood never got any better press than this !A pleasant image to sit back and view. Now...where is my drink.......Kindest Regards, Mike Link to comment
corbin 0 Posted July 13, 2011 Beautiful image - the smooth shift from bright to dark, the gorgeously luminous tones, the smooth surface of the water broken only but the jagged driftwood, the blurred clouds....everything falls in place for a very moody, somewhat disturbing picture. Link to comment
wolfgangarnold 142 Posted July 13, 2011 you have a great eye for clear, concise, yet strong compositions. The two pathces of pointy, irregular branches are contrasting very well to the otherwise very calm and soft surface and textures. And, these two patches form two "points" - one a variation of the other - in a "dialogue".I don't think the lower edge is too bright - it's rather a nice "entrance" opening the stage to the subjects. A darker edge or vignette would be more of a visual barrier.Best regards, Wolfgang Link to comment
vbirke 0 Posted July 13, 2011 Thank you all! I appreciate your comments. Very helpful.Jamie: I guess the flaw you mentioned is due to the relatively poor resolution of uploaded images here and / or your screen? However, I can see it a bit here as well (my screen is a calibrated EIZO CG19)... Hence, must be predominantly due to PN. The original JPG I've uploaded does not show it at all. You may view it here as well: http://www.artlimited.net/image/en/309126. There it appears (here on my screen) without any flaw. Link to comment
cosminalba 0 Posted July 13, 2011 Simplicity at it's best in my opinion. Excellent composition and very well choosed b/w tones. Congratulations. My best regards. Cosmin Link to comment
JamieK 1 Posted July 14, 2011 Browsers do change things, but I think the two pictures (the larger one here) render the same way on the two sites. The image looks better on the white background on the other site. best, j Link to comment

ldavidson 4 Posted July 14, 2011 Volker, this has a soft, dreamy atmosphere. The jagged branches sticking out of the calm water makes me think of disturbing thoughts sprouting in a peaceful mind. Very haunting and enchanting. Link to comment
llgarcia 1 Posted July 15, 2011 Volker,There can be many ways to apply figurative treatment in this image and that alone makes this photo outstanding. Beautiful tones, composition, flow, movement equals great image. Congratulations! - Lester Link to comment

thadley 15 Posted September 6, 2011 Sometimes folks write a comment on some of my images: "Simple and Beautiful" and I think that applies to this image. Initially I used to wonder if the term 'simple' was used in a non-positive manner but I think it means you have done a very good job in presenting an idea through an image where there is no clutter and you can focus on the main elements and enjoy the view. I would rate highly but it is not up for ratings. Link to comment
