This is Steve, a gentle giant of a man, who handles luggage for a major

airline for a living but who lives for competing in 'Scottish Games' which

are tests of brute strength. Usually one event in the games is the toss

of a long pole, which intentionally resembles a 'tree trunk' - to see how

far it can be tossed. In background photo, famed baseball player Willie

Mays slides into home in what is believed to be a World Series game

into famed 'catcher' Yogi Berra. (This original setup was not posed

posed but 'found'. Your ratings, critiques and observations are invited

and most welcome. If you rate harshly, very critically or wish to make

an observation, please submit a helpful and constructive comment;

please share your photographic knowledge to help improve my

Steve keeps in shape for hauling dead weights, throwing hammers and other he-man duties by handling luggage.

He's probably strong enough he can handle even the heaviest bag gently, whereas a guy at the edge of his strength might easily be forced to swing it and let it land where it may . . . .because the latter hasn't the strength to control it (my speculation, as Steve here and I didn't talk about throwing luggage and instead spoke of Scottish games and throwing things like hammers).

Here is a photo of two sports colliding (and I don't mean Mays and Berra's impending collision!)

What I love about this shot is the Huge Giant of a man that competes in the Scottish Games by "Tossing The Caber"  sitting in quiet thoughtful contemplation reading a book, a brilliant insight to his gentle thoughtful side, and a poignant reminder to not judge a person by means of only visual appraisal .

I'm now very curious as to what the book was about that he was reading?

Sincere compliments!

Alf, what a thoughtful comment, and you I think are correct about the name of the event, which I felt was not necessary in my initial request for critique.

And also in the idea that this giant of a man is in fact in thoughtful contemplation.  It is a 'trade book' meaning book store book, in paperback of course.

His identification for scanning easily is found on his wrist (I hope it is obscure enough others can't read it and if it can be then I'll download, smudge it a little then re-upload it.  I am not in the business of copying identification cards and the thought just occurred to me.

I like your comment very much . . . . it shows insight into this photograph as well as my personal insight into the subject and my success in portraying that side (which is the side I saw when I first saw him under this historic photographic poster.)

Best to you, Alf.

Please excuse me for misspelling your first name.

I know your name's spelling is very important to you, and it also is for me too, as a sign of respect.
