Please view this image large. The live oak trees in Savannah, Georgia

amazed us with their grandeur and impact on the mood, character, and

appearance of their setting. Your comments are much appreciated.

Thanks for taking your time to look and comment on this image.

I can appreciate what a grand sight this is.  Your photo conveys that sense of being enclosed by the canopy very well.  I think the greatest challenge is the range of light, and it's no different when I'm trying to photograph in an old-growth forest.  An overcast sky will reduce the range of light and the amount of contrast between the lit and shaded portions of the photo, and the "look" will be different.  That's what I'd want to do here -- compare a photo taken under fairly sunny conditions as you've done with one taken during overcast conditions (easy to do if you live here, very hard to do if you're a passing visitor).

Forgot to view it large, and you're absolutely correct -- it makes a big and favorable difference.

Thanks, Stephen.  I was the passing visitor.  Isn't that true about photography - it's the conditions and the light that matters most, and I perpetually get stuck having to make the most with less than ideal conditions.  Thanks for your comment.    Larry

Wow! stunning perspective and setting, that canopy is a photographers dream and the larger view puts me right there amongst it! Stephen has pretty much covered the lighting aspect, mid day sun is seldom a photographers friend, but I appreciate what you say, sometimes you just have to take what you can get. I think you got a good one here!

Best Regards

Alf

Tony and Alf,   I appreciate your looking at this image.  Regarding the midday sun, I guess I was lucky I had the trees to block out as much as possible.  Thanks for the nice review.    Wishing you both the best,  Larry.

Larry,

It is nice capture.  We could not find such a beautiful scene around where we live.  Natural and peaceful.  Best Regards,

Hi Wanghan.

Although there are many trees in Minnesota where I live, there is nothing like this combination of Spanish moss and live oaks.  This is an old estate in Savanah, Georgia.  Thanks for your nice comment.  It's always a pleasure communicating with you.   Larry
