I see you used a long telephoto and assume that you weren't in the water.  How far away were you and have you cropped the image to 'get closer in'?

Matthew,  this shot was far away and it's cropped a lot.   How far...well thats a good question.   I have a hard time judging distances over open water.  

Matthew,  I looked and the original RAW file is 16mp in size, while the crop is 4.9mp.   The PN file is, of course, reduced for web.   

The large view is superb! and absolutely shows that huge grin. This is a fantastic action shot and would look amazing printed. I like the crop, it lines up all the elements perfectly. To summarise, it conveys all the power, drama and adrenalin rushing action in one click of the shutter!

Beautiful and fine action.  The eye level really picks up the spray and colors.

Any more of these and I'll be uncontrollably tempted to reclaim my old campsite.  The last time was about 30 years ago.. do they still allow overnights there?

Steve, no overnighters at this spot.  But if you must camp out, I have a few acres less than a half hour away.  And a spare bedroom if you don't want to rough it.

Thanks Dominick, now that might just get me off of the mainland!  But, how I remember camping in the back end of that station wagon,  opened to the waves, moon and surf and (including any more details might get me into trouble..).  For some reason I though you were on Oahu.
