I saw the little island and thought "hmmm theres a photo here" after

looking through the view finder from different angles, standing up,

kneeling down, close to the edge of the water, then further away etc I

come to the conclusion that I couldn't get everything I wanted into the

shot. I wanted the tree to break the skyline, the reflections of the trees

on the right, the foreground grasses in the frame and the full reflection of

the little island tree, but had to compromise with the last one and lose a

bit of the reflection. I still liked the result though. Your thoughts and

comments are always appreciated Thank You.

Alf...  Give yourself a break!  This is spectacular as is.  Superb detail, beautiful color and the reflections are well represented... Mike

Couldn’t be any better, the lighting is of very high class and the DOF maintained tremendous details all over this very pleasant place and the moving clouded sky along with its reflections in the water add a great beauty here and rise up the quality of the well engineered composition, this is a real communicating image.

Thank you my friend for sharing it and wishing you all of the best.

I like the way the tree hugs the hillside, but I don't fancy the way it seems to be grabbing the clump of grass.  I'd move left.  best, j

I love the quality of the light and the clarity of detail in this image. Lovely f/g detail in the grasses and beautiful reflection of the central tree and those to the right hand side.

Regards........John

I agree with Michael, Alf.............we have no idea what else was there that you saw....heck there could have been '3 old ladies locked in the lavatry' and we'd be none the wiser!!! It's a 'beaut' of a shot and you composed it so well.  Wonderful detail in the grasses in the foreground, beautiful water reflections, and I love our little ISLAND...I think out of respect for your efforts we should name it 'ALF  ISLAND'......a place of contemplation and respite....just don't forget to wear your 'rubbers'!!!!and take a 'brolly' in case it rains! As usual "Perfection"! Congrats and thanks for sharing with us.  'Toodles', Gail

You landscape  photographers are never satisfied….and obviously that’s the fun of it!?:) You have crisp air, no wind, great light and quasi 100% reflection, an interesting motif... so if you need more the only way out is the 8-15mm (in Canon terms) or better ;) Great work anyway - compliments Alf!

Great light, very nice reflection. Yes, you could have avoided the reflection of the tree running into the clump of grass, and you could have gotten more of the grass on the left, but so what...It's beautiful.

Your analysis of the scene and aspects that you took into consideration should be read by those who strive to take better landscape photos.  You have a colorful and very beautiful result.  The aspect that I like the best are the trees breaking the horizon line, and especially how the tree on the left is following the contour of the hillside.  The fact that the reflection of that tree is cut off by the grasses is trivial; the reflections of the trees in the center (set against a bright portion of the sky) more than make up for those few lost branches.  I like to look for alternatives, and when I scroll the image up on my monitor to just barely above the highest branch of that left tree, it seems to put more emphasis on the foreground grasses, which I like aesthetically.  If I did that, I might choose to crop an amount on the left to maintain the aspect ratio.  That's just a minor thought on a wonderful, well-considered photo.

Its all been pretty much said, and I concur.  This is lovely.  What about a little step to your right to allow the top of the tree's reflection to finish off between the two tufts of marsh grasses?  Wonderful photograph, Alf!  Cheers!  Chris

Alf,  Gail said it for me, "What you don't know won't hurt you."  The only complaint I have is that you need an apostrophe in "mans" to capture John Donne's quotation (LOL).  Lynne Truss, a British grammarian whom you may know, writes of the "Royal Apostropher" in Eats Shoots and Leaves.  This is another of your superb reflection shots.  I wonder if there's a little blow out in the white to the left of the reflection of the main tree?  Again, you have taken what may have been a plain common scene (the best kind) and turned it into a work of art.    Larry

Alf, Really wonderful sense of depth here and the color is awesome.  Very well composed with the little island providing the perfect connector from fore to back.  This is a nice introduction to your work and I intend to enjoy even more.  Best Regards.

The result is beautiful and I have little to add to what has already been said.

You did mention that you could not get everything you wanted into the image. Not being there I would not know (old ladies in a toilet?) what else was there to include but a technical solution to include more would be a panoramic series of shots either in landscape or portrait mode. It is a technique I will try and employ more frequently in the future.

Again, this image looks perfect to me.

i am glad to see a new photo from you.

my first impression was: wow this is a very difficult scene to shot. these difficulties still feel a very little bit in the final result, but still you have a stunner here. stunning colors, and the light is not only beautiful but right for exploring this scene to maximum, which you succeeded well. an outstanding photo.

alf, i already used my "goal in front of the kop" analogy, so i would "only" say that i am totally in awe of what you are able to produce. the colors, the sharpness the serenity, are all mesmerizing. I can look at this for hours! (high pass technique employed?...) take care, dror.
