The sky was so bizarre that day - and I thought these strange plants

made it all look very eerie! The original picture was a little darker,

however, and so I lightened it a little on the computer. What do you

think? Does it look light enough? Other comments? Thanks for looking!

I think to lighten it further would risk losing some of that surreal alien mood. I think theres a kind of "Avatar" quality to this image. Great atmosphere!

I agree with Alf. I think you stopped lightening at the right time. I enjoy the mood you captured. I like the perspective you used. I just wish i could see it larger.

keep up the good shooting   Pat

I also agree with Alf.  Your photo has a definite "personality" or mood created by the relative darkness.  It's an unusual photo, and those are often the best kind.  Very nice touch on the processing to allow the viewer to see the plants yet keep the mood at the same time.

Count me among the fans too, Jennifer.  This has some serious mood, and the flowers of the agave/yucca, all helter-skelter, actually add something to the drama of the scene.  This image exhibits a bit of the chiaroscuro technique used by the Dutch Masters.  I quite like this.  Well done!  Cheers!  Chris

Thanks everyone! I remember the moment perfectly...which I think is always a clue that the picture will become meaningful (whether others are moved by the moment is yet to be said)....but I remember looking up at the sky and it hit me.....it was just so amazing. Like a movie scene - surreal - very 'alien' like. I just had to stop what I was doing and capture the moment - those are the photographs that mean so much.....and we never forget them. But I am glad that I could share this moment with you too - and that it kind of effected you (as it did me). I think that is what photography is all about!! :0)
