Great picture, just stunning, Emmanuel. When Gabe grows up and looks back at these pictures he's going to feel like he was quite the star. This is one of the best you've done recently. Well, I don't know if I should really compare qualitatively, since the picture of the two brothers was equally as impressive on a more emotional level. But this one is a real photographic tour de force with strong verticals, great tones and with that wild backing sky, a terrific sense of drama.

This beautiful picture has been viewed 72 times and so far I'm the only one to leave a comment??? What the hell is going on around here? Whether you like this photo or not, this is a many-layered and original picture and certainly worthy of some discussion.

As Jack stated, it's a wonderful image, as much for the technical virtuosity as for the content. The tonality is very striking. I've never been able to get that kind of "snap" out of a b and w conversion. Most excellent.

Double underline all comments above. Nothing much to add without being repetitive. The exposure is as good as it can be and you composed and converted  the shot in the best way possible for the given situation. That's it. Compliments!

As Jack writes: what the Hell! I will write a critique despite the general laziness around.

It is a very good photo that despite it's apparent overload comes out firmly focused on a boy, on top of the world.

First of all the bB/W is beautifully mastered in mostly greys and the sky announces that serious things are going on. It is no playground. It's life.

The composition is just perfect with the perspective diagonals build up by the wooden walls to the right and the facade of the white building in the background. Just by these simple means you are directed to the main subject that furthermore is focused by the ladder leading up to him. The various items on the ground are playing out their respective roles but the face of the boy tells a story of firm will of staying where he is, looking down on the observers with some despise of a child, but that will heal. All respect to the boy, he has his reasons.

You could write a novel on the basis of just this one photo that obviously should be on the cover.

Great work Emmanuel.

Imagine what there would be to discuss if a photo like this ended up as a POW. Just dreaming !

What first strikes me when I look at this photo is its tonal range. I just love your B&W tones here, Emmanuel -- really outstanding..! The high contrasting tones also seem to emphasize the slightly ominous feeling that is being conveyed by the impressive looking sky above. You have managed to turn an average looking playground into a stupendous looking fortress with this capture :-)  A detail I appreciate is the small white cones placed on the ropes' shadows on the left -- it looks like a large board game, waiting to be played with. Your pov is well taken, with the little boy's contour nicely framed by the white part of the sky. Although he doesn't come across to me as being too willing to have his picture taken here, I'm confident that he will really appreciate this photo at an older age :-) Congrats, Emmanuel -- a powerful capture, from a viewpoint of both technique and perception!
