I like this B&W image very much: it's very effective from a compositional point of view. Personally I would have removed the vignetting effect because the dead tree is already a good attention-concentrator... Then I miss a little more details in the roots: on my display they appear to be very dark, quite black... These are only my opinions and you may disagree...
