"Can you imagine swimming 400 kilometres against a raging current, encountering thousands of obstacles along the way, not eating a bite of nourishment, with only one purpose to your journey -- to reproduce and die? Such is the fate of the Adams River sockeye salmon. The drama of reproduction is played out in exactly the same way every cycle as millions of sockeye make their way back to the gravel beds of the Adams River, the place of their birth, to spawn and die." Adams River Salmon Society

This year an unprecidented 10.1 million are returning to B.C. watersheds. People come from all over the world to witness this incredible event.

The odyssey of these fishe is really unbelievable Linda....

I visited BC some years ago, but unfortunately was one of the most pure years of salmons' return, so I lost this unique event.

You have successfully captured them with clarity and beautiful vivid colors against the shining pebbles of the river.....!!!

A beautiful shot Linda, I never imagined the beautiful colors of these salmon.  I have seen many documentaries on this event, yet never saw colors such as this.  Thank you for providing the history of the Salmon, very well presented.  Sincerely, Gail

Thank you all.

This is a big event here. I took this shot on the first day of the Salmon Festival. The first salmon to come through in the beginning of the run look much prettier and are more photogenic than later on. Some will become beat up on their difficult trip, some look quite rough, bruised and torn; but most are beautiful. In the clear water, with the sun hitting them, they are breathtaking. The colour is amazing, the beautiful magenta and lime green fish, swirling and splashing around is an amazing site. These three were calm, they seemed to be taking a brake, regaining their strength before moving on.

Fabulous image Linda! A superb record of this incredible odyssey. Despite all our technology we still understand so little of what goes on in the sea. So good to see the salmon numbers are up this year, but I digress. Fabulous color, and excellent composition in this shot Linda. Thanks for sharing it with us.

All the best,
Neil

I've seen documentries on TV about thier incredible journey, but I'd love to see the spectacle for myself, it must be awesome. The image above gives a great insight to thier environment and a colourful record of your visit.

Well done Linda!

While in the Pacific NW recently, we saw a couple of salmon run places, but of course our timing was off.  I'd love to see them go up the ladders someday.   I had no idea they were so colorful!  These are amazing!  And it's great that you got a cluster of 3 of them together!  Nicely done!

Beautiful image Linda.  I love the colors and the crystal clear water serving as a filter to diffuse and modulate the light into the scene. Nice composition.  Well seen and captured - regards always - michel
