Very nice diffused light and subdued colors on this shot.  Lovely OOF background as well.  I may have been tempted to frame it or crop it slightly differently to remove the second tree trunk on the left side. The highlight on this tree trunk is a bit distracting given the darker tones of the rest of the image and being so close to the edge it leads my eye out of the frame. Alternatively if you do not want to alter your composition you may consider burning the highlight just a tad or a combination of both (see my suggestion attached).  Overall very nice image. Regards - michel

PS I've also brought out a bit more brilliance through a level adjustment layer.

The fact that the leaves are just beginning to turn red and the sun is shining on them gets across the feeling of early autumn. I like Michael's adjustments. The give the image a bit more depth.

Many thanks for all of you who took the time to comment.

Michel, I always appreciate it when someone takes their time and talent to re-work one of my images. I certainly understand what you were going after. I do like what you accomplished, and I see how I missed it. However, I will stand by this work, since my intent was for it to be a subtle secret of how light works in the crevices of the forest - hence the paler option framed by the trees, or fence stump in this case. In any event, I learned a lot from you today, and I am grateful.

We also like this one, Liz. Beautiful light and shadowplay here...,also would have cropped away the highlight on the left :-)

The fall season has just started here in Norway too...looking forward to take part in it, we have been buried in work lately...

Warm regards, Anne & Runar :-)

Absolutely wonderful use of light and a great example of how it both reveals and obscures. The harmony of color here is outstanding. Lovely.

As much as I am a fan of Michel's work and especially his use of color, I think the subtlety of the original is preferable here.

a photo that remember everybody, and me first, that is necessary to have the patience to wait for a nice light make. also for the other photo, the grapes, that seem a 3D only for how the sun touch your subject. brava, liz
