I fumbled for my camera as the bike riders headed towards the end of

the breakwater, and promptly missed the shot! However all was not lost

as after a couple of minutes they started back again! Your thoughts and

comments are always appreciated. Thank You!

Having read the Tolkien epic many times as I recall the journey "There and Back Again" to be quite lengthy.  I hope I have not been to presumptuous and took liberty at creating a standard crop size of your image that I believe strengthens your capture.  There is a bit of sky without much merit as well as some sea of the same character.  IMHO it is unfortunate that the break-water and the horizon came out nearly at the same plane.

Excellent use of backlighting to capture this excellent image Alf! I do agree that cropping some of the foreground sea might be an improvement though. Well done mate!

All the best,
Neil

Well Alf... To be honest, when looking at the thumbnail I was under impressed, but upon opening I had to smile.  It came alive with the wave motion, the simple but uniquely colored sky and the bicycles are a superb dessert.  My only comment would be to remove the little bump in front of the last cyclist.  It grabs the eye and won't let go and it's not possible at this resolution to figure out what it is....  Well done and a great eye to see this... Hello Alf,

I must agree with Michael that the thumbnail did not predict what was to follow.  Love the silhouette and detail of the bike riders.  Nice color and tone as well.

Excellent work as always...

DAVE

I think you have got the crop spot on! I did consider it myself but having cropped the image already I didn't want the quality to suffer too much. The level of the breakwater and horizon however I think adds a cleanline to the image, but I guess thats subjective. Many thanks for taking time to look in and for your invaluable feedback, much appreciated!

Alf

NEIL

Yeah I agree entirely Neil, but in reality I didn't have a powerful enough zoom lens on the camera at the time of the shot and so had already cropped it quite a bit. Many thanks for your feedback Neil

Cheers Mate!

MICHAEL

Sincere thanks for your kind comments and feedback Michael.  Yeah I suppose it doesn't look anything much from the thumbnail, but better that you got a pleasant suprise rather than a disappointment. Ahhh yes the errrm bump...I think it might be one of them mooring things that ships tie up to (not sure what they are called) ..I did actually clone it out on an earlier version, but confess to being lazy on this one. Thanks again Michael.

Kind Regards

JERRY

Sincere thanks for your invaluable feedback. It is really useful to know what people expect and what is attractive to them. I am going through a phase where I like to see people within the landscape......quite a tricky business, but worth it when it comes right.

Cheers Jerry

RUUD

Many thanks for your visit and kind words, I do like the title too, but as Dave intimated above, I did steal it from the epic tale by Tolkien which is better known by it's abbreviated title "The Hobbit"

Best regards

ALBERTO

Sincere thanks for your kind comments, I agree the bikers are what make the image.

Many thanks for your kind words and feedback. I am really pleased that you find a story within the image, thats what I'm aiming to achieve.

What a blockbuster image, Alf.

The composition is sublime and the silhouettes of the bikers and the tower give us a suggestion of the enormity of the sea.  On another aesthetics level the lines and colors in this image make for the most delicious eye candy.  Simply marvelous.

Hi Alf,beautifull piece of work, you remember one of my comments about the impact humans bring in an image, here the tiny figures bring the biggest interest in this image, excellent work,Harry

Yes I remember you saying it! and hey I took note too!  I have another one to post in the next week or so, with some silhouetted people, and I have to confess that I really love it myself. Many thanks for your encouragement and feedback Harry.

You capture the soulful light.  I love the movement of the water -- vibrant, rushing, alive.  The orange of sun with the yellow and low clouds, and the way it hits the end of the pier --- almost copper -- very pretty.  And the bikers play against the movement of the waves, animate this further.  Nice composition.  I wouldn't want it cropped because there's room here to breathe.

Alf - this is very good. The major attraction for me are the folks on their bikes and my tendency for a 2nd image would be to get in a bit closer. Don't get me wrong, this is a very fine image 'as is'.  best regards.

DONNA

Your description as always is just as colourful as the image and very complimentry. I kind of like the open aspect in a sense, it gives a scale to the grand scheme of things. On the other hand though it would have been nice to have a more powerful zoom lens to hand at the given moment, in order that I could have got a good comparison of close and far type shots. My sincere thanks for your kind words and feedback Donna, much appreciated.

Warm Regards

Alf

TONY

I can see where your coming from Tony. Ideally a few close up shots with a more powerful lens would have given me better or different options, but I suppose you have to play with the cards you are dealt. I am thinking of buying the new Nikkor 70-200 F2.8 VR11 but the hefty price tag means I will probably have to wait a while longer. Many thanks for your kind words and feedback Tony, much appreciated.

Kind Regards

Alf
