Lovely shot Linda, and very well composed. I particularly like foreground vegetation and grasses they really give a very natural feel to the image, the background water is also another good element. The position of MR Elk munching away is also very typical and natural, in fact the whole image has an atmosphere of the natural world. I'd be interested to know if this was a crop? and if so what the original looked like.

Kind Regards

Alf

Thank you both for commenting.

Alf, yes it's a crop. I also cloned out some branches that I felt were distracting. I have attached the original for you. If you have any advice for me, as to how I could make this a more interesting image, I am all ears.

This fellow was having lunch beside the highway in Alberta's  Jasper National Park and there were a few other people photographing him. He didn't seem to mind but it worried me when some parents let their very young children run right up to him. Elk, like all wild animals can be unpredicatable and do charge and injure people. I was charged once many years ago, but I managed to get out of the way. When they are in rut in the fall they can be very dangerous.

Warm wishes from Canada,

Linda

Well done with composition and right amount of color saturation. All together make this shot classic for some book stories. Also, thank you for your review and comments on one of my latest work, as well on some of oldest one.

With all my best,

Grigoriy

I like the crop and the natural habitat.  If you are good at cloning or have CS5  with 'content aware, you might consider taking out the little branch on his face and the branches growing out of his back, but these are really very minor things.

Monte, thanks for the tip. I think that would help and I will try it.

Great capture. Love the crop and lighting. I think you couldeven push the color and maybe the contrast a tad to give it a bit more vibrance. But all in all I wish it were mine. Very nice photo.

I like how you warmed up the scene.  Quiet and graceful.  You could almost hear a twig snap...

oh damn, now I've spooked him.

Yesterday, I took the dog to the dog store to shop for treats and passed by some packaged antlers! They look much better on the animal.  -- So impressive!  I love this gentle scene with little hints of wildflowers and peaceful lake.  You provide enough detail that we can see his battle-marked skin.  Anyway, a lovely portrait (and crop) of him in this habitat.  You really live in a Garden of Eden, I think.
