GailAnthonyHarmer 6 Posted June 7, 2010 Wonderful image Linda. So impressive. Loads of detail, great treatment of light and shadow. THANKYOU for not turning the water into 'Candy Floss'. While that effect has it's place I see so images that folks do this to the rivers and streams and falls. It is a joy to see the 'power' of the water, and now it effects the surrounding landscape. I sure hope you were on a bridge to take this. Watch the rocks! and keep these great shots coming, sincerely, Gail Link to comment
stuhagenphotography 0 Posted June 7, 2010 Great work. I really like that you didn't crank the luminosity or brightness. It looks really natural. Well done. Link to comment
blue-olympus 0 Posted June 7, 2010 I agree with Gail, you have shown us the power of water roaring through this narrow channel. This is a great viewpoint to have chosen as the fallen trunks add to this glorious shot...Bravo! Link to comment

ldavidson 4 Posted June 8, 2010 Thank you all for commenting. It's good to hear from you.Gail, there were no bridges here. This was taken in Adam's Lake Provincial Park. It is very remote, and not many people know about it. It is pristine wilderness, incredibly beautiful Link to comment

stp 6 Posted June 9, 2010 Linda, I'm really impressed with the distribution of light in your photo -- you've controlled it very well and it's perfectly exposed. Looking down into a stream channel while also including the upper canopy is really difficult to capture, and you've accomplished that exceptionally well. These "chaotic" photos are often not well-received, but the naturalness and great light in your photo have overcome those frequent objections. My only very minor quibbles are the inclusion of a stump that has been cut with a saw (that's just a personal prejudice -- I prefer to avoid all marks of human activity) and the two slight intrusions of remnant foliage on the left side (these are very difficult to control, but I'd rather see more or see nothing -- easier said than done, I know). Finally, I'm also in agreement with those who like the shutter speed you've chosen to make the water look more natural rather than a silky fabric; again, it fits the character of the scene. ndj 0 Posted June 10, 2010 Excellent work Linda! Like Stephen I'm impressed by the even lighting you've achieved here. Was this by chance an HDR? Regardless this is an excellent, and enjoyable, image. All the best,Neil Link to comment
ldavidson 4 Posted June 11, 2010 Stephen, thank you for looking so closely and thoughtfully at this image. We have been getting a lot of rain the past few weeks, the creeks and rivers are really moving. I like the slow shutter effect in some photos, but here I was impressed with the power, sound, smell and force of this little creek. The rain has also made everything very green. The day I took this was grey and drizzling. This shot is pretty much straight out of the camera, I had to desaturate it a bit because the greens were so vivid they looked unatural. I think you are right about the stump, but I liked the raw natural feeling dispite it.Neil, no, this isn't HDR. Thank you for asking and your interest.Best wishes,Linda Link to comment

alfbailey 3 Posted June 12, 2010 I am impressed with the perspective, light distribution and sharpness of the image, it really all contrives to give a sense of the damp woodland. I read with ineterest that you de-saturated the image slightly in order that it appears natural, ..all credit to you....it does!Well done Linda!RegardsAlf Link to comment
ldavidson 4 Posted June 14, 2010 There is a moss that grows around here that is yellow/green. It is especially bright and highly saturated, it seems fluorescent. I always tone it down because if you don't see it every day like we do here, it doesn't seem real. Thanks so much for commenting. I always enjoy hearing from you. Best wishes, Linda Link to comment
thadley 15 Posted June 15, 2010 I am late to the party and in risk of repeating something already stated. I love the meandering curve of the stream and the very natural greens found in this image. Well Done! Link to comment
