Zealand Valley Pond

harrylichtman

An early morning among mist and moose on New Hampshire's Zealnd Valley. A pesky beaver was bent on disturbing the nice still water by swimming in circles in front of my camera position and slapping its tail. I ended up outwitting the beaver by luring the beaver (walking along the edge of the pond) to the far end of the pond, then racing back into position to trip the shutter.

I decided not to color correct the image, using a daylight white balance

setting. Your impressions welcome.

Harry:

This is a very nice scene, beautifully captured, and I love the color. The hint of green in the foliage on the opposite bank gives this a sort of a dreamy feel. Your tale of the beaver reminds us that as nature photographers we must be good at more than just clicking the shutter!

Thanks Stephen & Marc for your comments.  Hoping to catch a moose in the view next time. I wonder how the beaver deals with a moose in the pond at the same time.

I like this shot a lot too.  It looks like the two trees are protecting some deeper mystery

Surreal dream like image, a wonderful combination of detail and obscurity in just the right amounts and places, I really like it!
