My sincerest apologies Vladimir!! Actually I myself have received quite a few low ratings (don't know from whom) without any explanations, and formed a misconception. I rated this image low because the red flowers in the bokeh area seemed too distracting to me. Maybe a closer shot of the subject would have made things different. But again it is entirely my own opinion.

PS: You did a wonderful job with my sunrise shot! The whole aspect of the image became much better. Thank you for that. My warmest regards and best wishes - Suvendra

No need for apologies, blured flowers are destructing this way, I should have taken this photo with another lens and/or at f 8 or even 11. My point is that most of us learn from each other and I think that open and sincere communication is ireplacable.. Thank You very much for your comment on this one and in a future...BR, vf

I have a different opinion about the dof.  I like the way the blossum seems to hover over the bokeh.  I love the combination of reds and greens and that makes this really stand out for me anyways.

I like the image, the reds and greens are really very appealing, I do think there is perhaps too much space to the left of the flower with not a lot going on, I would suggest a vertical 33% crop, but that is just my perception.

As far as ratings are concerned, I have now opted out of the ratings system for the very reasons Suvendra describes above,(low anonymous ratings) and now only post images for "critique only" After some reflection I decided that ratings didn't really help me in any way become a better photographer, and anonymous ratings that are open to abuse are not helpful to anyone. I agree whole heartedly with Vladimirs sentiments "open and sincere communication is irreplaceable" After all ratings are just numbers.

Nice work Vladimir

Regards

Alf

Well, this immage is definitly not my masterpiece..I've just tried to extract this poppy flower from the background. As of rating sistem the basic fact is that most of hundreds of thousands PN members do not rate low all posted immages that are not interesting or are purely crafted, for if they  have, the PN sistem would colapse in an hour..No one would benefit from that. Many members (me included) like to see his/hers immage among top rated photos of the week..However, one or two anonimous low ratings from malicious members can affect one's rating rank and there is no way to avoid it..I am against anonimous ratings and I am against the sistem that allows  rating without any explanation, high or law.  Alf, thank you for the comment and support on this issue.

Poppy popps out ! BTW the composition is good, I LIKE THE SPACE Around. It is not about  the one poppy , but all other poppies.  cheers Jana

Very beautiful image, the subject pops up so nicely against the blurred back ground and the colors as original.

My friend, I scan my films using the Epson 750 scanner.

Thank you my friend and wishing you all of the best.

I came back to this picture Vladimir several times and having read the comentary and especially the explanation for a low rate which is very polite but it made me smile. My advice to newcomers to photography is to look and look to lots and lots of work before they aquire an opinion and before they express it. In my opinion the actual background gives the picture an impressionistic and dreamy look... The only thing that bothers me a bit is the bottom third of the picture as IMO it does not flow well with the rest otherwise, always IMO. is a perfectly good picture.

Thank you for your support..My conclusion on poppy's - I like best immages of the poppy fields, there are a lot of those on a web, in case like this I've tried to isolate and present one entire plant..

To me, it's an excellent composition with very effective dof. The red colors in the background are perfectly utilized for enhancing the beauty of the composition. Best regards.
