Taken at 2:30am f5, ISO 800, 40mm, WB-tungsten. Thank you for

looking, I appreciate all advice. This was cropped from a wider shot and

a little noisy the ship was moving pretty fast and I was trying to stop

action.

What a lovely feeling you must have had when it turned out this good. The wb set on tungsten really has done this image into a piece of photo art. Wonderful colortones and the light from the city combined with the lights from the ship adds to the total impression. Take good care my friend and all the best from Jannica

pamela, what are you doing out so late??? i hope not by yourself.

i like the purplish tone of these skylines. the gathering clouds also add to the mystique in both. in this one i feel the water can be cropped a bit and in the other one the skyline centered. it is a little bit between the symmetrical and the asymmetrical compositionally.  but i like these images, they have a lot of character.

we are doing a project with a firm from seattle now (LMN) though i am not on the project.

Pamela, Very nice nighttime (early morning) shot. Good capture of the reflections in the water. Clouds create an ominous feeling to the shot. The ship cretes great perspctive in th eshot. Well done. - Charles

Jannica,  I appreciate your kind words and am always happy that you have visited my work ;)  I had a hard time trying to catch this ship and have some images with my ISO at 1600-they are good but very noisey. I changed my WB a couple times and the tungsten (with a few pp adjustments) seems to look the best in my opinion. Take care my friend, Pamela

Dror,  No I was not by myself and was out to play night photographer. I do go alone (cant always find a friend that wants to play so late) and chose places where I know there will be other photographers out so feel pretty safe. As always I am open to any suggestions; This is a really wide shot so I had a hard time trying to decide if to crop this, more sky-less water-less sky...left-right...etc what would be the best look... this was where I ended up. The ship was crusing at a good speed and was challenging to capture. It is to bad you are not on the Seattle project...I would buy you a cup of coffee  ;) Take care, Pamela

Charles, I appreciate your kind words and glad you sense the same mood I was feeling when I captured this. I hope you are well, take care, Pamela

Pamela...  There's something so nostalgic about ships leaving port at night.  I guess I've watched too many old movies :-).  I don't have a favorite of this series, they all have their own mood.  I comment on this one because of the ship.  Excellent work Night Owl... Mike

Beautiful picture with nice colours and wonderful clouds particularly. I like these horizontal stripes/waves on water, these are for nice contrast to the sky.

Hard to choose a favourite, but I think it would have to be "City Lights", I like the metallic kind of tones to that one> I like the darker mood to this image though, and of course the ship. I know when I took the photo's of the Liverpool waterfront that I had to experiment a great deal in order to get a satisfactory result, and there doesn't seem to be any magical formulae for night shots, the light changes so rapidly you have to make adjustments shot to shot. I'll come and play out late Pamela, just give me a months notice so I can avoid the volcanic cloud over Iceland, and keep my coffee hot

: - )

Nice work Pamela!

Warm Regards

Alf

Ahhh, one of my favorite cities. However, I don't consider 2:30am to be late because I often will start waking up at that time. 10:00pm is late for me, but 2:30am is early rising for coffee. I like your shot, you did a great job considering the circumstances you have described.
