pnital 36 Posted February 5, 2010 Bnei Brak is an Orthodox area near Tel Aviv, photographing in the main street I saw this well known painting , featured in a framing store. Some information about this very interesting painting of Maurycy Gottlieb. Maurycy Gottlieb ( 1856-1879) is a well known Jewish painter. One of his known painting is " The day of Atonement". .Aside from the technical mastery, what is interesting is that all the models are his and his wife's family members as well as his own . http://www.tamuseum.com/museum/masters/mauritzio.htm Thanks for viewing. jeffl7 0 Posted February 5, 2010 I like how real life reflects back onto history. The painting in and of itself is fantastic, but I like how you've added your touch with the frames, the reflection, the angle and so on. Link to comment
Donna Stavis 0 Posted February 5, 2010 I agree with Jeff's comment. It's an interesting painting -- intimate -- Westernized. The reflection plays interestingly with the backdrop windows and curtain of the scene as if they could be out of the painting. The casual way the other frame leans against this, and the bricks, put it in a context, yet do not distract for the viewer getting lost in exploring this scene. Thanks for the link as well; I enjoyed reading more about it. Link to comment
amalsircar 2 Posted February 6, 2010 Pnina, I agree with Jeff & Donna. The painting has come alive with your deft touches. Many thanks for the information & the link. Link to comment
vetterhome1 0 Posted February 6, 2010 The small piece of the wall at the right makes it perfect. BR Joerg Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted February 6, 2010 As has already been commented on, the reflections in the glass somehow animate the figures in the painting. Timeles illusion modified by accidents of passing light. Link to comment
laurent_jaussi 0 Posted February 7, 2010 the juxtaposition of reflected elements with the paint make it more complex just like in life...a clear vision is always mixed up with a great number of things going on in parallel... Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted February 7, 2010 Jeff, yes, life many times reflects on history, in this case the years that this painting was created, are an evidence, and especially were I saw it ....;-)) Donna, thanks for your nice comment and interpretation. Knowing this painting I wanted reality to show ,but not disturb the unusual work of art, that became so commercial.... on the other hand the subject is right for the Bnei Brak store. Amal and Jorg, I think that you have understood what my aim was, to show the masterpiece at the "street gallery". Jack and Laurent , it was both ,as Jeff wrote, reality reflected on a well known (painting) history. Link to comment
giuseppe_pasquali 0 Posted February 8, 2010 the reflection opens this work to different interpretations, and thanks for the explanatory text, ciao, Giuseppe Link to comment
