let me thank you of your attention with a brief quote from some interesting articles strongly linked to this photo:

At the Laboratory of Biological Modeling, National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, Bethesda, Maryland, United States of America, researchers found "that US per capita food waste has progressively increased by ~50% since 1974 reaching more than 1400 kcal per person per day or 150 trillion kcal per year. Food waste now accounts for more than one quarter of the total freshwater consumption and ~300 million barrels of oil per year." *

Same could be said of Italy, where some recent researches have found that each year we waste some 6 mlns of tons of food (5% of bread, 18% of meat, 12% of fruit, bought in stores) and this is due to: overbuying - 40%, unnecessary purchases - 21%, expiration date - 25% ...

Thanks again for your attention, ciao, Giuseppe

great composition. I wish there was no homeless and hungry person in this world. that's just a wish and truth is beyond all wishes

When I saw it for the first time some days ago I was really, really unsettled.

Winter, cold. A socially excluded man, eating his lunch sitting on the dirty pavement. Sitting on a bag with his belongings. It is so strong that I am not able to figure out the relationship with the woman passing by, who probably has not the faintest idea of what she's heading to.

When I was a teen there was a verse of a song: "carrying her home in two carrier bags". It comes back into my mind.

Rome is our city, Giuseppe, and we know where to find these people. There are really a lot.

Thanks for sharing.

no better thanks for your words than quoting the song that was one of my favorites:

Streets of London" - Ralph McTell, 1969

Have you seen the old man

In the closed-down market

Kicking up the paper,

with his worn out shoes?

In his eyes you see no pride

And held loosely at his side

Yesterday's paper telling yesterday's news

So how can you tell me you're lonely,

And say for you that the sun don't shine?

Let me take you by the hand and lead you through the streets of London

I'll show you something to make you change your mind

Have you seen the old girl

Who walks the streets of London

Dirt in her hair and her clothes in rags?

She's no time for talking,

She just keeps right on walking

Carrying her home in two carrier bags.

Chorus

In the all night cafe

At a quarter past eleven,

Same old man is sitting there on his own

Looking at the world

Over the rim of his tea-cup,

Each tea last an hour

Then he wanders home alone

Chorus

And have you seen the old man

Outside the seaman's mission

Memory fading with

The medal ribbons that he wears.

In our winter city,

The rain cries a little pity

For one more forgotten hero

And a world that doesn't care

May you stay forever young my friend,

Ciao, Giuseppe
