The skies seem to go on forever in Alberta. With the wide open spaces

we saw many beautiful storms and sunsets approaching from the west. I

loved the way the sun illuminated the bottoms of these clouds. Please

let me know if you're tired of seeing yet another sunset. :-)

Awsome looking sunset, the edges of the cloud looking like they have been etched in gold, and the trees silhouetted against the setting sun putting the icing on the cake!

Grreat Shot!

I never tire of sunsets probably because no two are alike. This is spectacular. Your timing was perfect. Well done. ~~~~~~L

I'm glad you all have had a positive response to this. I'm always hesitant to load a sunset picture because they're a dime a dozen. But I thought this one had an interesting enough cloud pattern to warrant a look-see. So thank you for 'looking and seeing'! :-)

Mike, the 'y'all' is in your honor. I've actually always wondered how to spell that southern greeting. I SAY it all the time, even though I was born and raised in Indiana....but it feels strange to write it! :-)

Well, you always need someone to rain on the parade. Personally, I think you've got a lot of black here. Since you've cropped it already; keep going, come up from the bottom to just below the sun-rays, leave a bit of negative space. I would love to see you start taking an exposure for the FG and one for the sky. Even in PS3 or PS4 (if there is such a thing; PS4 that is), you can blend 'em. I wish I was closer, I'd show you how. Serene and sweet! Cheers! Chris

First of all....my bad......I meant to say I have Elements 4, not PS4. Sorry I confused you. I started shooting RAW this past summer, and this program won't even load on the raw images. So I'm still just working with the jpegs. I did some experimenting with taking different exposures +1, -1, etc. in the hopes that I'd be able to blend the images, but until I get a better editing program I won't be able to work with them. But I was thinking more of an HDR. You're talking about another way to blend 2 exposures.....NOT an HDR? Please when you have time, I'd love to know more of what you mean. I'm not sure I understand. As for this image, you're right.....I have cropped it already. I left this amount of black because I liked it this way. Didn't try it with more though.....so I will......thanks for the suggestion. :-)

Yeah, I hear you. When you get a new PC and are able to load CS3 or CS4, a whole new world opens up for you. You can take two exposures from camera raw and 'blend' them together. I wish I was closer to be able to show you how to do it. This is what Mark, Leo, and I, and many others on PN are doing these days. It pretty much alleviates the need for ND grads. One takes an exposure for the FG, and then blends it with an exposure for the sky; and 'Voila' you have a beautifully balanced image. Once you have CS3 or CS4, let me know, and I'll try and walk you through it. Cheers! Chris

Not a sunset like this :-)). Amazing capture in a fine composition. Nature at its best. The dark vivid colors adds to the atmosphere. Great work Christal. Take good care and all the best from Jannica

I will never tire of looking at Alberta skies, sunsets, sunrises or mid-day. They really do seem to go on forever. When we drive there from B.C. the light seems to change as soon as we cross the border. This is a spectacular sunset. Well done.

Best wishes,

Linda

This is a very dramatic sunset image, with rich tones and an interesting cloud shape framing the setting sun. Very nice!

Christal, I always admire sunrise and sunset, when the sky with lit with light and colors. Very good composition and control of light & exposure. Dramatic scenery.

Christal, there's such warmth and, perhaps ironically, an earthy feel because of the colors which remind me of burning autunm leaves. It is truly a lovely sunset, and in your composition, even the clouds cooperate by framing the sun as it sets.
