leo burkey 0 Posted January 17, 2010 It was getting very close to sunset when came these long shadows cast by some desert shrub across this dune. The flowing background dunes added the final touch to this composition. I must admit that the original RAW did include the bush along with its shadow but I felt that the composition was stronger without the bush included. Link to comment
davidspeight 0 Posted January 17, 2010 Well seen again Leo, the composition looks to me as though it wouldn't be the obvious one, but works very well due to all those snaking curved lines going off in different directions. very well done, Dave. Link to comment
pimderuijter 0 Posted January 17, 2010 Very nice composition, original. Good tones and nice texture. The shadows add some extra sphere. Link to comment
lonebearimages 0 Posted January 17, 2010 This is really terrific! I love the textures, tones, and comp. I think the FG shadows are the kicker here too. Nicely processed. Cheers! Chris Link to comment
ar11664883249 0 Posted January 17, 2010 This is just a beautiful and original photograph....our compliments on this one, Leo ! All the best, Anne & Runar :-) Link to comment
hopsage 0 Posted January 17, 2010 I'm really liking these dune abstracts you've been posting from the Death Valley series, Leo! They form a marvelously coherent group. I imagine a giant, vertical triptych of, say, 3 of these (of which I'd include this one). I bet the result would be spectacular.. Link to comment
ndj 0 Posted January 17, 2010 Leo: This is a fabulous photograph! Beautifully composed, with a brilliant play of light, and shadow. Good decision to crop the bush I think this is superb as is.All the best,Neil Link to comment

thadley 15 Posted January 19, 2010 A stunning image worthy of a 'top prize' . With the tonal range, the shadows, the textures - it is a visual feast! Congrats. Link to comment
papasan 0 Posted January 19, 2010 Truly beautiful. I certainly agree with your decision to leave the shrubs out of the composition, without any other element but the sand dunes, this becomes a study in abstract forms. The tonal range in this photo is fantastic. Great work - michel Link to comment
leo burkey 0 Posted January 19, 2010 I am tickled at the response to this image and to think I almost missed it. It was only with the crop that it seemed to pop to life. It just goes to show you that it's always worth taking another look at those discarded images with a crop in mind. Thank you all for your encouraging words. I do appreciate them very much. Christal1664882414 0 Posted January 20, 2010 Typical of your style, the tones are to die for! And I think this is the best of your dunes series. The range and variety is amazing, and the cyclonic shape coming to a 'V' down front is just spectacular. Plus I'm really a sucker for layers in general, and boy do you have layers!!! Hey Leo, did Chris tell you that I suggested he enter some photos in a B&W Magazine? I sent him the info. I think you should do it too.....your work is so great. If you want more info on it, let me know. Link to comment
leo burkey 0 Posted January 20, 2010 Thanks Christal, I do appreciate your encouraging words. I didn't know that you were the one who encouraged Chris to enter. Please email me the information on how to enter and thank you for thinking of me. Link to comment
Christal1664882414 0 Posted January 20, 2010 It appears that the deadline for this year was Dec. 31st. But there is always next year. :-) Here is the magazine home page. http://www.bandwmag.com/ Then click on 'Contests', and it will give you all the info. You might want to pick up the magazine at a book store to see all the different category options. Keith Harper, another member here on PN, has won a couple of times with his images. He's British, and it's a British magazine, but I don't think that necessarily had anything to do with it. He's a great photographer. Anyway, you and Chris both do such great work. I think your images would stand a great chance of being selected. Link to comment
