Well, I have to say that my heart suddenly sunk for a moment. It makes one wonder. It would likely be the one house in the neighborhood that I would walk a wide circle around. I wouldn't want to taint the illuminated statement with any doubt or questions.

This picture speaks volumes. I can just imagine the mind set of the home owner. Like Jeff, I would also make a big circle around the house, if I were walking by. Well seen, Dave and welcome back. B ;)

Interesting setup, The owner looks very patriotic and religious as well.It looks as if the lighted cross is "defending" the house. Nice night composition.

How are you? you are missed ! My best wishes .

Hi to you too. As for the image, I know you are quite aware of my distaste of nationalism and religion. To me, this cross almost has an appearance of a KKK cross burning. And, those KKK guys always saw themselves as patriotic Americans. Of course I read more into it than I perhaps have a right to. But I do and so it is. I'm still struggling to find the time to be involved in Pnet, but I'm making some headway. Take care.

yeah, that's certainly an interesting composition. It could be interpreted in good and not-so-good ways. As we are people in a V8 nation, we see it in a positive light, right? Cheers, Micheal

I saw it just the way you did. I've looked at this photo several times since you first posted it and keep finding that it horrifies me. Great job! You sure had an eye for this one.

No David Meyer portfolio would be complete without one of these shots. That cross is uncomfortably close to the fiery symbol of the Ku Klux Klan, especially juxtaposed with the hanging American flag. I'd bet the farm that the people who live here didn't vote for Barack Obama.

This is soooo intense, Dave. It's you at your best doing what you do best. I'd call it documentary as much as street. But, then again, to me all your work is documentary. dp

Yup, scares the crap outta me. Somehow the siding, the white pillars and that big ole tree in the yard play into my KKK nightmare.

On the other hand I am aware that there are people out there sufficiently unaware that they could put up a display like this without realizing the way it could be taken by the rest of us .... in which case I would be somewhat less frightened ..... but only somewhat.

Either way great social commentary. I like the way you lined up the left edge of the cross with the window and hedge.

I know and I'm your partner...;-))

Its a great documentary shot, you have a real knack for this sort of thing if you don't mind me saying so. I can see the KKK reference, but for me it symbolizes the fundamentalist right even more...and they scare the crap out of me.

a very special image...a bit frightening for sure...I already told you what I think about religion and proselytism in some other image of your series about religious messages...but religion, patriotism and proselytism...well it seems for some people too much is never too much...this is really a powerful image showing cleary that the drift can be confrontational anytime...
