Six by six format chosen to include the moon yet remove a second rock

formation on the right. Does it work for you? As always, thank you for

your time.

In this image it does not work. This was no doubt taken with a wideangle lens, so the moon will be tiny. The moon is so small that it might as well be a star. It is a little tiny speck in a vast sea of blue. This is an image where a composite of the sunset would be best sandwiched with another of the moon. You could have even shot the same moon with a telephoto lens and stacked the images or simply just cut and paste like I did here (I found a quarter moon image on the web).

It is a beautiful image. I like it the way it is. Colors are really wonderful. I think that a simpler frame would make it even more appealing.

You know how to make composition, and this one not exception. Very low horizon and most of the part colorful sky at dusk. Universe always bigger... Just excellent!

With all my best,

I don't see the size of the moon as being a real issue. The real beauty of the image is in its simplicity of composition and the wonderful gradation of colours and low level cloud bank. I would like to see the original before cropping too, if at all possible. Beautifully captured Dave!

Thank you Alf for your interest.

I most regret the frame on this and many other past postings, it was just a period of time, I believed the dark frame was better setting off my colors.  Enlarging the moon never appealed to me either, though I do have an image created with a large moon filling the left upper corner.  It looks more like an image from some sci-fi fantasy.

At the time, I was mostly interested in the capture of the dark sky above the lighted spectacle, hence the Moon and Venus came along for the ride.  This image was captured as a portrait image, personally I like the negative space both top and bottom, better than this crop, but some for some reason, I have felt over compelled to modify.  For you Alf, I am attaching a large file (1200px long side) in its original 3:2 format.

Best Regards...

Many Thanks for taking the trouble to show me the original. I agree with you, the original is best, the portrait orientation allows more of a flavour of the moment. Minus the moon of course : - )

My instincts would have told me to stop the aperture down as far as possible and go for a long exposure, but the result may have been too cliched. In conclusion I think you had it right first time!

Cheers Dave!
