alecee 0 Posted December 1, 2009 Banteay Srei is a 10th century Cambodian temple dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. Located in the area of Angkor in Cambodia, at 13.5989 N, 103.9628 E, it lies near the hill of Phnom Dei, 25 km (15 miles) north-east of the main group of temples that once belonged to the medieval capitals of Yasodharapura and Angkor Thom. Banteay Srei is built largely of red sandstone, a medium that lends itself to the elaborate decorative wall carvings which are still observable today. The buildings themselves are miniature in scale, unusually so when measured by the standards of Angkorian construction. These factors have made the temple extremely popular with tourists, and have led to its being widely praised as a "precious gem", or the "jewel of Khmer art. Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted December 1, 2009 Remarkable architecture, made all the more interesting with the information you have kindly provided, sandstone can erode quite quickly so I am glad to see these buildings and statues seem to be in very good condition, very interesting woik. GailAnthonyHarmer 6 Posted December 2, 2009 Great shot of this magnificent place...you've captured so much detail in the buildings. You're POV must have been carefully chosen to get so much 'information' in the shot. And as Alf said - the information you provided was most helpful.......and I love history! The details help so much when observing a photo of such a place! and I can truly see why it is considered a 'gem..' Link to comment
alecee 0 Posted December 2, 2009 TQ Ruud, Alf, Gail. It's well preserved as the courtyard is block out from visitors and we can only view it from the perimeter. Awesome details in the architecture. Link to comment
blue-olympus 0 Posted December 2, 2009 Very attractive shot. IMHO I would have considered changing the viewpoint to exclude the stone upper left in foreground. Nevertheless a magnificent documented place for architectural photography....Well done mate! Link to comment
