It was the fall of 1998, during my last semester of law school that

Professor Dorean Koenig at my law school, Thomas M. Cooley in

Lansing, Michigan, convinced me to travel to Frankfort, Kentucky to

help work on a death row case involving Kevin Chapman, who had been

sentenced to death for a crime he had committed while still a minor.

Thus did I travel to and spend six months of my life in the Blue Grass

state, the land of Daniel Boone and, yes, Adolph Rupp. It was an

interesting time, to say the least, as penniless and cast adrift in a

foreign land, I had a lot of time on my hands. My longest lasting

memory of Frankfort, besides the generousity and kindness of the

people I met, was the long walks to and from my destinations, and the

long, pungent hours in my bathroom that I converted into a very messy

darkroom. This modest image, taken along the roadside, therefore,

brings back those memories. And, yes, Kevin Chapman's death

sentence was commuted to life in prison by the governor, though I was

long gone before this happened

Very "Adams-esque", which is to say.....gorgeous. Tonality, contrast and range of zones is outstanding. All the branches are great leading lines that draw your attention to the center, really great composition. And the square format is perfect for this photo!

I like the contrast and design in the image. Somehow the narrative goes with the image. which was quite interesting.

I love the contrast between the central leaves and its dark resting place. It befits the accompanying anecdote.

Lovely tones in this amazing composition. The leaves in the middle in their lighter tone make quite a contrast against the darker ones perhaps symbolizing hope. Thanks for sharing your story.
