mcclure 0 Posted November 30, 2009 what a curious haunting image - it reminds me of watching a print develop in the darkroom - that moment after you turn the print face up and agitate the solution to get an even development prior to the stop bath. I also get a sense of a toddler's first ride on the contraption -- gazing out at the scene through teary eyes. Very wild -- I like it a lot. Link to comment
hossein 0 Posted November 30, 2009 as John told, it's like print develop in the darkroom. I'm still wondering what's that and how you took that. is it under water or behind the window? Link to comment
giuseppe_pasquali 0 Posted November 30, 2009 for your comments and ratings. In December this Merry-Go-Round (made in Germany in 1896) is installed in Piazza Navona in Rome, where a traditional "Christmas" street-market takes place every year. Last Saturday I was there quite early in the morning, experimenting with my new Nikkor 17-55 f. 2.8 when I saw these wooden horses still "wrapped" under a protective tent. I shot some photos through a transparent plastic window. The final result, as I expected, is both surreal, a bit frightening and retains to my eyes too the old mysterious flavor of childhood that John has so well described. Thank you again, some more will follow, Giuseppe Link to comment

mcclure 0 Posted November 30, 2009 OK, so after reading your remark, I'm now seeing 113 years of fun on the back of a wooden horse who is now gasping for breath wrapped in "Glad Wrap". Plastic is Bad for the environment but makes a great image -- ; ) Link to comment

jeffl7 0 Posted December 1, 2009 The offbeat framing works, making this more of a statement of the horse interacting with the environment at large, delightfully depicted with all those squiggly reflections. Link to comment
giuseppe_pasquali 0 Posted December 1, 2009 The best effects are those found in nature ... it takes only to have attentive eyes and good feet ;-) Thanks again, ciao, Giuseppe Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted December 2, 2009 A terrific image. That's not much I can say because this photo lives in a place where words have lost their meaning. Link to comment
giuseppe_pasquali 0 Posted December 2, 2009 thanks a lot for your appreciation. Let me add a quote that I found while thinking about horses (white ones) and places where words have lost their meaning: "I watched as the Lamb opened the first of the seven seals. Then I heard one of the four living creatures say in a voice like thunder, "Come!" I looked, and there before me was a white horse! Its rider held a bow, and he was given a crown, and he rode out as a conqueror bent on conquest". Revelation 6:1-2 NIV [Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse] Thanks a lot, ciao, Giuseppe Link to comment
wieslawmamon 0 Posted December 6, 2009 this is above all the oniric atmosphere which makes this photo so interesting and I think the strong emotions govern the way we see it, recalls the happiest childhood memories yet at the same time the horse's eyes and the mysterious stains on the plastic window have rather a sinister appearance. Masterly presentation, compliments and best regards. Link to comment
