Hello Vlad,

I agree. When first joining PN I thought that was OK. Now after some time I realize no rating without comment is the way to go. Thanks.

Best Wishes,

Holger

Thank's for the support; no ratings would make me better photographer, maybe only closer to the main stream..

This is a very fine image, almost like a vintage print.I like the toning, and the sense of loneliness it seems to convey.

Anonymous ratings are there to prevent people from 'getting back at' low raters.

I am not sure that I understand..If I for example, rate your image 3/3 under my name and explain what is it I dont like, what will prevent you to rate anonimously my photo, except you conscience? Nothing! So, the way I see it, the system say: Dont identify your self if you think that someone's photo is not good, dont explain why you think so for the author will anonimously retaliate..This is not a way to improve our work my friend.

Sarah Bernhardt

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sarah Bernhardt (October 22, 1844 – March 26, 1923) was a legendary French stage and early film actress, and has been referred to as "the most famous actress the world has ever known". Bernhardt made her fame on the stages of Europe in the 1870s, and was soon in demand in Europe and the Americas. She developed a reputation as a serious dramatic actress, earning the nickname "The Divine Sarah." ...

This one grabs my attention by force - the tone and light is mysterious ..... the face is shadowed enough not to block imagination by harsh reality and clear enough to imagine expressions ... very romantic. I appreciate the reflections on the table / floor and the lines and curves of shadow on her body. I am a very amateur photographer, far less experienced than yourself - hope you don't mind if I say the lamp is a bit too blown off to my taste and the big bright white distracts a bit. Thanks for sharing.

I am truly impressed by this image, it conveys so much emotion and character, the tones are remininscent of an aged painting, and the ghostly image of the main subject retains the mysterious mood and quiet foreboding of the entire image.

I can sympathise with your views on the anonymous rating system, there is nothing more annoying and frustrating than getting a low rating for a photograph that you had considered good, and not know the reason. I can understand Les's view about "getting back" at low raters, however surely an improvement would be to let people remain anonymous, but not let them rate low, (or high for that matter)without some kind of explanation. The current system I believe is open to abuse.

Sorry to ramble on, in summary though It is a shame that I couldn't have rated this image because I believe it is worthy of 7/7.

Kind Regards

Alf

Jayanti, I agree with you, the lamp is a too blown off..I was too lazy to use soft-box, so we could see background and the light would be limited..Thank you.

Alf , I do appreciate your words on this one immage. About rating: I can live with low ratings - I am not a pro and never will be, I dont need high ratings as a reference..some of my photos are better or more interesting than others; what I expect is a useful feedback, advice..We all actualy ignore photos we found un interesting or a clishe but when someone rate low my immage anonimously I do not know what to make of it, is it something personal or the rater is just too lazy to write down a few words. I agree with your statement " The current system I believe is open to abuse". It would be interesting to know if PN administrators have records of anonimous raters, because if they do, I am comfortable to let know all PN members of my anonimous ratings on their works...and vice versa. Alf, Your words are so much more precious to me then 7/7's.

Bob, thank you.
